...use a .30 cal suppressor on my 7mm Rem Mag? It is now legal to use them here for hunting (will be shortly anyway) and I don't own one. I see that a .30 cal can be used from .308-5.56 so I was wondering, if I had the barrel on my Mod 700 threaded would it work OK? I'm not sure about sub-sonic loading for it but would like to reduce the signature if possible.
A 7mm bullet is smaller than .30 caliber, so you're fine there, but you may want to check with your can's manufacturer to make sure it can stand the pressure from a 7mm Rem Mag. Looks like the max SAAMI pressure for a .308 is 1,000 psi higher than for the 7mm, but it'd still be good to have documentation from the manufacturer OKing it. The way if anything should happen to go wrong, they can't blame you.
Thank you for the information, another great reason I like this site.
I knew at .284 the bullet diameter is smaller than .30 cal, I just wasn't sure it possible or even practical to try to suppress it. I know very little about cans and didn't know about the pressure issue. I don't own any .30 cal rifles at this time but I may consider buying something in the future. I've been seeing that for us poor folks a one size fits all may work.

Well even if the max SAAMI pressure for the 7mm Remington Magnum is perhaps 2 or 3% lower than the .308, the
volume of gas the suppressor has to deal with will be
much greater.
You're burning a LOT more powder in the 7mm Rem..
Not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, but just noting that pressure alone isn't the only factor in this equation.
Good advice to ask the manufacturer for documentation.
