Beretta Bobcat 21a Threading?
I am thinking of picking up a Beretta 21A for a 22 suppressor host. I have only found Tornado Technologies and Hi Desert Dog as the two companies that offer threading for this gun. Torndao Tech has a long unpredictable lead time. I have not heard anything about Hi Desert Dog, but they have one instock with a threaded barrel. Does anyone have experience with them, good/bad?
I've the HDD barrel on my 21A, & it works just fine.
The little bobcat is a great host; the only issue I have is the complate lack of holster(s) for it...
I have a high desert dog barrel for the 21a. Had to send it back twice. The last time I received it back the feed ramp was abysmal - however since it was 1-2 months each time for turn around I smoothed it myself & stopped contacting them.
I also got a 10/22 barrel from them that threw bullets sideways.
Never again.
Check out Accurate ordnance. They are an excellent shop and they will take care of you.
Incidentally, they just posted on their website their process for doing exactly what you want done..
Contact Mark. He is a longtime and respected poster on this board (bookhound) and he will take great care of you. I've been doing business with him for years. Their turnaround time will beat Tornado Tech by a wide margin too!

+1 for Accurate, they did mine in two weeks.
Great guys as well.

Gemtech will do it also.
That's where I had mine threaded. They install an extended sleeve.

I looked at Gemtech, but their return shipping price seemed way high.
Do you send in the pistol or do you have to remove the barrel from the bobcat to get it threaded?

If you ship the whole pistol, it is pricey, as most carrier require overnight shipping.
If you ship just the barrel, it's cheap to ship back.

It ain't
our shipping price; it is UPS's requirement that handguns be shipped Next Day Air service. This is because of internal handgun theft, and UPS 1-day gets better handling (and less time in transit). FEDEX has pretty much the same requirement. If you don't use the 1-day air service, they won't pay the insurance claim.
If you are willing to send us a signed note saying that you will not hold us responsible for loss in transit, we will be happy to ship UPS ground. On air shipment, we charge you exactly what our actual UPS charges are.
Or, if you want to pull the barrel yourself and just send it, returning the finished barrel will go UPS ground. If you are pulling the barrel on a 21A, that hinge pin is in really tight and the frame is aluminum. Better to have a gunsmith pull it for you.

I did not mean to make it sound like it was Gemtech making the high shipping. I understand it is the shipping companies that set those prices. I did check with UPS and it is about $60 in shipping each way. I wish your company was closer to cut down on the shipping. I am still debating the small 22 suppressor host concept. Shipping prices seems like it would be the only down side to this project. Also what is the turn around time for a project like this if I were to send a whole pistol?

I paid more for the threading than I paid for the 21a. Is it a fun little toy? you bet! Do the costs justify it? Meh....I did it when I was single, so of course. I'm married now, and doubt i'd be able to pull it off without some teeth gnashing.

The cheapest and fastest way is for you to have your local gunsmith remove and replace the barrel, sending just the barrel. In that instance, turnaround would be somewhere less than a month. For the whole gun, possibly several months, especially considering the time of the year.
Considering UPS's overnight service, the cost difference between close and far away is not a whole lot less. This is because everything done overnight is sent to Lexington, KY, their center, and then redirected to the final destination. FEDEX does the same thing, but their center is in Memphis.
The 21A is one of my favorite .22lr suppressor hosts. Hard not to feel like James Bond with one.
The factory barrel can also be threaded without adding a sleeve.
I have no experience with the HDD barrels so I cannot comment on them.
Best of luck to you.
Mark
I was surprised at how well these guns suppressed. I thought there would be more ejection port noise, but not so you'd notice.
I found mine used, already threaded. It appears to have had a barrel sleeve installed, so I'm guessing it's a Gemtech thread job. Everyone else I've heard of threads the barrel and installs an adapter.
The gun likes high velocity ammo, which does stay subsonic. I would get stovepipe failures if I ran subs through the gun.
I take mine hiking, as it is small and light enough to carry with a can installed. One of the micro 9mm cans would be ideal, as a 6" .22 can os really too long for this gun.
Here it is next to the larger Bobcat.
And the next-smallest host
