Short OAR rifle for HD: FS2000 vs SBR AR-15 vs SBR Sig 551A1 vs other?
Which would you rather buy for a home defense carbine? The FS2000 is expensive but has a short OAR and doesn't need the added expense and time of going through the SBR process. The Sig would be sexy as hell but is not as proven. The AR would be the familiar middle ground option.
Are you asking about the Sig 556 or 551? You said one, but the picture is of the other. I'm assuming 551 because that's what the picture is of, and if it is, I wouldn't consider it because the magazines are $80 each.
8" .300blk

Either but probably the 551A1.
Other, save for the Steyr AUG or IWI Tavor (both scheduled for release this year). I prefer bullpups to SBR's because a bullpup has the advantage of greater muzzle velocity (of particular importance to the .223 / 5.56 round) and they do not require a tax stamp. There are several threads (possibly in the archives) comparing the FN FS2000 and the Steyr AUG.

This. I prefer AUG-style rifles to the FS2K, didn't care for how it handled or the insanely complex bolt assy (YMMV).

20" AUG vs 10.5" SBR:
I chose "other" as I don't have an FS2000, but if that is what you have then stick with the FS2000.

FS2000, due to no NFA stamp required.
I have both an FS2000 and a 10" SBR with suppressor. The Suppressed SBR is what I use for hom defense. It is loaded with 75gr tap which helps with the reduced velocity issue. I have alot of time training with the AR platform and I am faster with it. I have the suppressor to help prevent hearing damage. with the stock collapsed it is pretty short. 5.56 out of a 10" barrel is still fast enough to penetrate any bullet proof vest without plates, and moving to a 20" barrel won't help it penetrate the plates. I do feel that ammo selection is more important with the sbr than with the bull pup.
FS2000 with a light in the foregrip.
The SIG 55X series not proven!!?? Best piston system out there IMO.
Another option would be a PS90.
SBR AR because you know it works and it's so versatile.
9mm SBR AR15. In a perfect world I'd have a MSAR MCS right now.

What I meant was the American made sig 556 / sig 551/a1's are not proven as they are not used by any military or police department as far as I know.
I have a couple AUG's... great guns, but pricey.
16" AUG and 10.5" Colt

The last batch of 550 mags I bought direct from SIG were around $40 each, not $80.

I believe SIG of Exeter, New Hampshire produced weapons are what he is referring to, not Swiss Arms AG SG 55x rifles.
M17 says hello.

They don't have to be in order for them to be
proven......
The operating system is the same. Of course ALL companies can put out a lemon or two from time to time.
