I have a chance to pick up a Marlin model 70 tomorrow. It's a semi auto 22lr, comes with two mags, and in average condition. I can pick it up for $32 bucks but it's missing the front sight. Comes with a very cheap old scope.
How hard would it be to install a front sight?
There are at least a few kinds of marlin front sights. My marlin 70 has a single screw ramp front sight just exactly like a lot of the Marlin 60's very easy to install. The other style slips over the barrels end and then installs with a screw. There are double screw front sight ramps that then have a dovetail sight slot on top of them. There is also the barrels with just a dovetail.
It does not matter which kind you have, all are easy to work with and most likely you have a
Single screw rampstyle and they are $12 and simply screw on.
I would pick up another M70 in a heartbeat. The 2 mags alone are worth almost $30 and they are a great rifle, very accurate and fun. On the downside is the 70's replacement the 795 is often found new for $99-$120.
