Going to buy a Mosin this week from AimSurplus. What are the best dates to look for when buying one as well as laminated or not?
Thank guys
Clean/clear barrel and good trigger. The rest is cosmetics you can fix yourself
i'm partial to the finnish M39.
they shoot a little better usually...
never looked too hard at all the little details like dates or hex vs. round receiver
I just figure if the finns took the time to re-work it, it should work just fine for me
Tula arsenal made ones generally have better machining, but bore condition is everything on those rifles. Hex recievers are pre-WW2 but served during WW2. Laminated stocks were used to make use of smaller pieces of wood, but they are stiffer being laminated. Your call there. Year of maunfacture isn't as important as bore condition, but some of the Izzy wartime (1942-3) can be rough on the outside. My '43 M38's reciever is a raw forging on the outside and what little grinding done looks like a 12 year old did it.

Local Cabela's has them on sale till next week for 100 bucks went and picked up another today, 1940's manufacture good looking bore.
Thanks for the information guys. Will be ordering a Tula tonight.

You lucky bastard.

Check 7.62x54R.net Good source for info. My 37 Tula shots great and accurate. $119 about a year ago at a Mom and Pop Gun Shop.
get yourself one at a local gun shop. they are all over and you can personally inspect the bore and throat. like said before most of the other stuff is just cosmetic.
that said, the laminated stocks are for the most part new from the armory and in much better shape than the solids the first M44 i picked up is a lami and has...
beautiful wood
