I was at a local gun show yesterday and there was a guy with a table set up selling wildlife prints but he also had a Colt A2 Sporter II with an M203 grenade launcher attached. He said he wanted $1800 for it and now Im wondering if maybe I should have made a deal with him. I don't own any Colt ARs but I would imagine the gun itself is worth a fair amount. Whats a setup like that worth? Am I an idiot?

Was it a 40mm? I thought those were DD's and subject to a transfer tax. I think the 38mm are considered flare launchers and not a DD.

40mm = Destructive Device
37mm = Not Restricted

I didn't even think to look, but I knew the 40mm is considered a DD.

Did the launcher receiver say M203 40mm, or did it just look like a M203?

2 things here. I was more than likely a 37mm flare launcher on the rifle and at $1800 you were getting screwed.

If it is, in fact, a 40mm grenade launcher then you will literally be getting screwed in prison for possession.

Either way it's not worth it.

This was the main reason I decided not to touch it. For the brief moment I handled it, it did say Colt on it down by the trigger along with some other stuff. I didn't really look very close because I knew I wouldn't be buying it.

I'd bet it was a 37mm. Still not a bad price.

An M-203 receiver is a title 1 weapon.......it's the 40mm barrel that makes it title 2........I've seen a few M-203's for sale as title 1 guns (with 37mm barrels installed)

Most likely it's just a POS Cobray launcher.
