 .50 AE Rifle?

I've been looking for a .50 AE rifle to go with my DE, but have had almost no luck in locating one. I saw there was some sort of conversion offered on a Marlin model 1894 by one company (for about $1500) and that Alexander Arms used to make an AR type rifle for this cartridge, but what else is out there? I'm open to about anything.

MartyW used to build them, my .50AE upper on the AR works great for short range use. Too bad it has been passed up by the 'other' big bore conversions.

The problem on lever guns is getting the lifter plate that loads the rounds to work reliably with the shorter cartridge.

Would the rebated rim of the AE pose a problem as well?

Also, while I don't see .50AE listed as a stock option, you might contact Bullberry about chambering a T/C Contender or Encore barrel in that caliber.

Probably.

The last two name brand smith's I know that tried the 50 on lever guns gave up on the project. If it can be made reliable, I would love to have a modern 'tactical black' lever gun in AE.

I thought maybe New England made one. I know they make a 500 S&W. I stumbled across this while looking.

Hmmm....

The ad says 'easier' to build than the '475', but $1400 PLUS the cost of the gun?

I sure with I'd seen this post a week ago. I just traded an upper for a Mini-30 that I really aint in love with.

Mine was a Dalphun Arms. (They're gone now) It was a really nice gun, but I just couldn't afford to feed the damn thing.
It was a blast to shoot, and alot more accurate than slow, fat bullets are generally considered capable
of. There's a few others floating around out there. If yer already an AR guy, it's pretty worthwhile.

I have a Grizzly MKV 1911 in 50AE.

I'm interested in an AR conversion to go with it.

Special Interest Arms has a limited run of converted Enfield rifles listed on there website. IIRC it uses Desert Eagle AMT Automag V mags.

I just asked Martin and MAS Gunworks and he said he can build a 50AE upper.

martin@masgunworks.com

I wanted to get a 50AE upper also, but I can't justify it with the price of the ammo. I hardly shoot my DE as is.

Thanks for the info, all. I'm looking at the options, currently. An AR upper would be most desirable for me since I've got a good lower I could easily slap it on, but I'm weighing the other options. I'd just like to get it before opening weekend of whitetail season here in Indiana!

Price of ammunition isn't much of a concern for me since I can reload quality .50AE at ~$0.40/rd... for the time being.

Might have to add a 50ae barrel and bolt to my order. I have my own plan for a magblock with feed ramp and mags though. The mags in my LAR would be very easy to coppy into an extended stick mag from sheet metal.

Just remembered I might need two 50 ae barrels. One without the AR extension... I plan on building the LAR into a 10" longslide.

If you see how easy it is to convert the AR15 mag to feed the 50AE you wouldent even consider any other way.
I also do a 458x50(50ae necked down to 458) & working with the 45win mag right now. All use ar15 mags.

I'll bet all you need to do is trim the follower and add a spacer.

The advantage to having a machine shop. You don't have to do it the easy way.

I want 20+ round stick mags, so I'll have to build them myself. If it pans out I'll be sure to send you a few and a magblock to try with the 458x50 and 45win mag.

You might try 440 corbon to.

Or you could get a .44mag barrel for your DE and then you have a lot of carbines to choose from to match.

I wonder what it would do with .30 or .224 sabot bullets?
