PICs Of My SWEET Super Shorty XCR!!!!!

Yesterday I picked up an 11" light profile barrel that Alex Robinson made for my XCR. Man is this thing sweet. It balances much better and shoots like a dream. I leave the gas setting on 3 when shooting Wolf 55gr. ammo, setting 2 when shooting WWB 55gr. or UMC 55gr. and the S setting when shooting any ammo suppressed. I only had a chance to run 200 rounds through it yesterday but it shot flawlessly.

Isn't that the rifle Mitt Romney used in Heat?

slag: It shoots better then it did with the original 16" bb. It ballances better and I can use lower gas settings for less recoil. I only had a chance to fire 200 rounds through it but using Wolf I can keep it on setting 3, with both WWB 55gr, and Remington UMC 55gr. I keep it on setting 2 and with Black Hills 75gr. I keep it on setting 1. With the suppressor the S setting will work with any ammo including Wolf. I haven't been able to shoot any farther than 50 yards but all shots will stay within 1/2" rested and 1" off hand.

Holy God!!!11!one!!1!!!!11!

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my entire life! I really
didn't care about the XCR one way or the other up to this point, but THAT has
piqued my curiosity. I didn't realize there were so many options for them.

Congrats on an exceptional SBR!

Gr8Santini: Don't worry, everyone has the constitutional right to be a moron. Let innocent_bystander boycot Robinson Arms, I think I will go out and buy another XCR to be used for my next project. I have been brainstorming with Alex on the ultimate PDW. He is designing a much shorter op-rod/piston that will allow him to make me a 9" barrel chambered for the 6.8SPC round. I am then going to take the standard upper and mill the top rail back 2.5" to acomodate the gas block so the barrel terminates right at the end of the handguard for that MP5SD look.

I believe chambered in 6.8SPC or 6.5 Grendel at 8" or 9" would make an excellent PDW.

Which is the serial-numbered piece on an XCR that is legally considered to be the firearm, the lower or the upper?
MadDogDan  [Member]
5/18/2008 12:14:05 AM
The lower on an XCR, just like an AR, is considered the firearm and carries the serial number.

MadDogDan-

What twist is that? I know Alex bought barrel making equipment a while back and am wondering if you have one of the first barrels from it, possibly with a 1:7 twist.

What ever it is, it looks sweet. Once I get to an SBR state I want a 11.5" 6.8SPC barrel myself.

TROLLS-

Whine about your distaste for Alex in your own thread and stop pissing in MadDogDan's thread. What ever you think about Alex, the XCR kicks a$$.

Who made the can that mounts on the Vortex? Is it a Smith suppressor?

Nice!

I think there was someone on the XCR forums talking about going a step further and doing a PDW XCR with shorter rails and gas system. MadDog- I'd be happy with it like you've got it.

LoadedDrum: The barrel is a light profile 1:9 Twist. I didn't want to wait forever to have the barrel made from scratch and knew that Alex already had some 12" chrome lined heavy contour barrels so I had him cut a 12" down to 11" and turn it down to a light profile. The light profile is about a 1/4 pound lighter then the heavy.

Dr_Nimslow: The suppressor is just a thread on AAC Ranger that I already had. I have to take the Vortex FH off to use the suppressor. I may get a QD suppressor for it but first I need to pick up an AAC 5.7 can for my FN Five-seveN.

Bolster: I believe it was me talking about the XCR PDW. Alex is in the process of making some very short op-rod/pistons and when he is finished he is going to make me an 8" barrel in 6.8 SPC. I will need to mill the top rail back 2.5" to fit the gas block but I will end up with the barrel terminating at the end of the handguard for that MP5SD look. I may have pictures of that up on this forum in three months or so.

its pimp man! i was trying to figure out the shortest possible barrel, it looks like 10.25" is possible.
MadDogDan  [Member]
5/19/2008 8:03:07 PM
Bryan: 10.25" is not possible with the current gas block position. You need at least 2" of barrel in front of the gas block and that is with the gas port opened. The gas port sits at 9" so you would really need a gigantic port to make it work. Alex is working on a shorter piston/op-rod which would make it possible to turn a barrel with the gas port at 6" giving you an option of barrels as short as 8". That is going to me my next project for a 6.8 SPC PDW XCR.

Robarms has a shorty upper on the drawing board what will allow a 10" barrel to be used. I think they will be shaving like 2.5" off of the front of the hand guard/receiver to accommodate the shorter barrels.
MadDogDan  [Member]
5/20/2008 8:19:21 AM
Killswitch: After taking copious measurements Alex decided to come up with a new, shorter upper rather than cut back existing uppers. If he were to cut back an existing upper 2.5", the front of the upper would terminate in the middle of the oval vent holes. He needs to come up with a new short upper with different spacing of the vents. The key to this project is a shorter piston/op-rod which he is testing now. With the shorter rod in production it is possible to turn barrels as short as 8" & 9". We talked about taking my existing upper hand milling (I would do the work on my upper) the top rail only, back 2.5" to acomodate the shorter placment of the gas block. That way the side and bottom rails will terminate at the end of a 9" bbl. for that MP5SD look. I have been thinking more about this PDW project and if I modify my upper to handle a 9" bbl. then it might as well be a 6.8 SPC for better PDW ballistics.

It's heavy.
The ergos suck.
More than a few "have issues" and almost all the early ones FTF/FTE on a regular basis.
It's priced a little high (for what you get).

Others than the above, yeah it kicks ass.

Ergos are fine for me, especially with the Vltor stock.
It's only heavy if your a pussy.
I have only heard of a couple having problems and they were all older models. I have heard, and witnessed more ARs having problems.
Priced about what you would pay for a good AR with a good rails system and upgraded stock, plus you get the added bonus of having a cleaner, more reliable operating system.

a) Oh come on! DSA para-FALs are in the same weight range. for fucks sake.
b) Yes, the older ones had lots of problems. The newer ones have the same issues on a smaller scale.
c) The 556 is a better rifle. and I have high hopes for SCAR.

I've never thought of FALs to be heavy. Of course I am used to hauling around my M1A and that is about 14 1/2 pounds dry.

I don't know of any new XCRs that have had problems.

Hows about we quit shitting in this guy's thread? No one asked you to come in with this XCR slander. You don't like it? Fine. But this wasn't an opinion thread. He wasn't asking what you thought about XCRs.
