Thanks, I was looking for something like that but didn't find it. I saw a cool African Python at the Zoo today and the color pattern on it looked awesome and I thought it would look good on an AR or other rifle..

On the left is an IDF sling the front attachment is a velcro band, also IDF. On the right is nothing but a straight 1.25 sling (from Eagle I think) attached to a SPEC OPS stock magazine carrier and a swivel drilled into the FF tube.

You can get the snake skin look by using a mesh laundry bag and spraying overlapping colors.

My color scheme is sort of subtle... but you get the idea.

Ricochet7 that is the Nikon M223 scope. Bought it from Marshall at Primary Arms and so far I'm happy with it.

I really like the snakeskin look on that black rifle. I have a black Daniel Defense upper on a Spikes lower, and I have been looking for some type of paint job similar to yours. Just out of curiosity, what type of paint did you use to get that color effect on the black rifle? Any technique pointers? I am really looking forward to trying this on my gun.

Thanks much for your help.

Not sure if you're refering to mine..

The base coat was done with Alumahyde Dark Parker Grey. The Alumauhyde is a nice product, but it takes about a week to cure and I'm impatient so I did the rest of the colors with Aerovoe. You can use Krylon but Aerovoe has a lot more colors and doesn't cost much more.

The colors on mine are Marine Corp Green (very dark green), Foliage Green (almost a light grey) and flat black.

Here is a link for Aerovoe

Yeah I was referring to yours. I am going to give this a try in the near future. Thanks for the info. Would be awesome to see some other pictures if you have tried this with different color combinations or on different rifles.

Thanks. I practiced on a toy rifle first but I don't have any pics of that one (pretty bad, actually).

A couple of notes. I masked off the rail so it doesn't chip when you mount the sights. Also, I roll the mesh bag under the rifle and use binder clips to hold it flush.

Here are a couple more pics.

All custom colors. The base coat is a custom DuraCoat color blended from a number of different colors, but I think the ACU Gray-Green is probably close. The darker color is a blend of Krylon tan, OD and some dark brown. The really dark shaded parts are OD and black Krylon. Placing the stencils took forever (3-5 late nights, can't recall the exact amount). A search on Nebulosa in the archives will pull the full project thread.

I used to live up in that area, but got tired of the cold dark winters... now I get to complain about getting heat stroke while trick-or-treating If we ever move back north again, it will be Kentucky...

In Kentucky, you can have both. Within 3 days.

I am considering a snow pattern for my AR, just to keep the snow away. Similar theory to washing your car causing rain.

I guess I need to wash my car, because we are very dry right now.
