Has anyone got to test out the Flir m18? Dont hear much about this unit however it should perform very well with a 640x480 core and also noticed that the FOV is 18.7x14 standard, or 13.8x10.4 which should give it more detection range than the m24. Also was wondering if it could be weapons mountable with a creative mount? If so this would be worth looking in to for $10,500

I just hunted with one last night. Excellent resolution (even with digital magnification). It's a small, compact, economically friendly unit that is well thought out. Minimal buttons and functionality which I like.

Last night was humid and rainy here in N Texas ( bad for thermal) and I spotted three pigs feeding in high grass out at 500 yards (with 1 X). Also, I use a 3x magnifier with a custom threaded fitting on the objective. Awesome resolution at 3X + 2X = 6X!!!!

This unit is worth every penny of the 10.5K...however it can be had for around 9K with a 640 core.

My 307 really suffers when its humid. I live about an hour north of Houston and it seems like its always humid. Does the 640 core struggle like the 320 core in the humidity? Do you know if the m18 can be mounted to a weapon, thought i read somewhere that it has a reticle.

The 640 core does not suffer as much in humid conditions in my experience. It's my understanding that an Elcan mount is being developed to enable this unit to be weapon mounted.

The size of this unit is its biggest strength. I care store it on top of my chest rig while I'm walking with 9s and grab it whenever needed. Pretty cool! I gotta say...pigs don't stand a chance. My kill ratio has increased 10 X using thernal. It's not even fair ;-)

If they come out with a weapon mount for it 9k would be a great price for a 640 TWS.

About how much does the 3x magnifer cost and where can you get them?

I noticed last night a cold wind really effects the unit also. It wasn't long before everything started to "white out" so to speak several hours after the sun went down. I did a little reading and it seems windchill can have effects on thermal units. I had never heard of that.

Can someone in the know chime in on the "white out thing"? I took my M24 out this morning for a coyote hunt. The temps were down in the 30's. I noticed little speckles of white dust on the image after a while. No big deal. I could still see pretty well. But, I was a little concerned. Then it occured to me it might be temperature related. Sure enough, as the temperature climbed up after sun up, the white dusting effect went away.

Anyone know the technical explanation?

must be normal then as i have seen the same thing on the m18 also the speckles are in the same place every time , like certain pixels are prone to it - calibrating takes them away for a while but they keep returning untill it warms up a bit ( only a few dots over the whole screen so it ,s no big deal )
