Good and bad on functional use of the unit.
Trying to decide on BNVD or add a PVS14 for dual goggle.
The 4949 (AVS-9) is for aviation use and has coatings on the lenses that optimize sky glow at altitude and also filter different light for cockpit lighting. Discussing the coatings is generally frowned upon even though the information is readily available on the internet. The coatings also slightly reduce system gain. They are very good (I own a set) but one must use more care with these as they are more fragile and not intended to be handled roughly.
The 5050 is the ground version and has a much tougher shelf to hold the tube casings. Pretty much just like the AVS-9 but the optics are only coated to reduce glare and improve IR light transmittance. The housing is tougher.
BNVD was designed from the ground up to be used in the field. Toughest one of the bunch. Has normal ground coatings on the lenses.
I like them all and use the AVS-9 that I adapted for ground use quite often. You get stereo vision which is very helpful at times. You also have other options such as the PVS-15, PVS-21 or AVS-6.
Availability ?? All are easy to purchase but be prepared to give your checkbook a workout.
Mounts and parts are expensive for these scopes. Anything aviation pretty much doubles the cost. Aviation grade milspec tubes are some of the best tubes produced. I have Omni IV milspec tubes in my AVS-9 and they outperform many newer tubes I own. These tubes also are very clean and usually have no blemishes, or ones so small that they are hard to see (all tubes have blemishes, some are just really tiny).
If you ever want to try the Granddaddy to all these strap a PVS-5 to your melon. Be prepared to give your neck muscles a good test. They are pretty heavy.
So if I could buy a set for 6k? Should I?

For a BNVD ?
New they go for $7,500 to 8K. For a used price 5,000 to 6,000 is OK but I would like to know what kind of tubes it has before I buy it.
6k for the F4949

Depending on what tubes it has it could be a great deal or priced a little high. As a price comparison (not a sales pitch as I am not ready to part with them yet) I was going to sell my AVS-9 scope with a PT helmet , Clip on power supply and self powered mount for $5,500. That is what I thought a fair price would be used considering they are factory sequential numbered and matched milspec tubes.
Some guys will take any old tubes and slap them in a AVS-9 housing. I need to see pics through each tube to give you an accurate value. If the tubes are autogated and decent 6k would not be a bad deal.
Yes, what you sent me would be a very good deal for the price.

Dang Spikes, those are full on gansta goggles right there.

Where you located in MI? I am in Ann Arbor. If you aren't too far when the unit comes in we can go test them. Really need that DBAL D2 to start shipping
Gonna be a good year!
I'm between Cadillac and Traverse City.
About 2 1/2 hours give or take maybe one day I will take you up on the offer but for now I'll jest settle for pics

Just got these ANVIS-9s in........uh......wow!!!!!!! After comparing back and forth with these and my PVS-14 Night Enforcer, the PVS-14 looks yellow. Looking through these ANVIS-9s are like watching HD.
