Years ago, I bought a cheap Night Owl Optics Gen 1 monocle (might be my prblem right there) at WW, used a few times, for about a year, and put in storage...batteries removed, in a soft case, temp stable room. Recently I went to use it..put in new LI batteries, and while it powers on, power light ok, and IR light ok, but no picture. Tried to find answers online, but nothing to address my issue. Any thoughts? As far as I am aware, it's never been misused, dropped, used in sunlight, etc. Can long storage have an adverse effect on NV, or do i got a problem unit? Thanks for looking.

Those cheap Russian commercial Gen 1 tubes can go pop at any time. Power supply issue if you ask me. Not worth fixing. Sell it for parts on eBay. Wish I had better news for you.

I was hoping for something with an easy fix, read: not having to buy another one but I appreciate your input. I paid about $150 for it back in 04, so I guess I got my money's worth for the time I did use it . Guess I'll wait til I can afford something better down the road.

No worries. Won't make that mistake again, having read your NV guide, I got a better idea of what to look for

Yeah I keep meaning to update it with pics and more info. Also if you can find them the Zeiss Orions are a good deal, when I wrote it they were largely unavailable.

From what I could find, seems the Zeiss would be completely out of my current price range, entry level Gen II NVD would be as well, but may be doable in the near future.

what is your price range?

The other option is to find the cheapest NV you can on ebay and a reasonable IR light...

If I had to get something like right now, my price range would be similar to the unit mentioned in the OP due to me just starting the process of a career change. Once I get settled, and the money is there, I'll likely consider something in the 500-1k range.
