Zeiss Orion 80 mkI Night Vision scope replacement ??

Caught one at a decent price, $500, but I think the intensifier tubes are weak.

From what I have read about others that own them mine is not even close in illumination.
Only starlight is a no go. Sliver of moonlight is better, but I dont think I could clearly target at 100 yards.

At any rate I am going to return it.

What are my options from $500 and up.
100-150 yards is okay as a limit.

I really would like a Eotech and an illuminator but that sounds expensive although a lot more versatile.

Would like to keep whatever under $1000.

Also need input on some night vision binocs or monoc good to maybe 150-200 yards.

Thanks

These are about the best you are gonna find in your price range. Sounds to me like you need to adjust your expectations. It is possible that you got a bum unit, which happens as they are surplus. Mine works fine under the conditions you stated so you might try to exchange it.

Did you turn the gain all the way up to remove the bright light screen? Also if you let your eyes dark adapt a bit the screen might seem brighter.

You can always use an illuminator if your scope isn't hacking it.

Under 1k Other Gen1 TC scopes you might find in your price range are the PVS-2 or the soviet era 1pn34, neither of which are IMO as good, the 1pn34 in particular will be much more distorted.

Stepping up to gen2, you can sometimes find PVS-4's near 1k, but they are usually somewhat more.
