Christmas is approaching and, well, we all love our MUM...

Yes, I think I speak for every one of us when I say we all love our MUM. There's something about her. Is it the high quality optics or the solid construction? Whatever you think, I know she holds a place in our heart and we try not to talk of her flaws... You know what I mean... The lens that doesn't take LIFs or other filters and the problem with attaching a 3x Afocal lens.

Well, while I was browsing, I noticed that the MUM is back and it doesn't seem to have these flaws anymore. Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I thought I'd pass it on... no sense in keeping mum about it right?

The MUM-14A,

Which for some reason seems to be either a prototype or a deprecated model already and the MUM-14B.

Interesting eh? Well, maybe some of you have already seen the pics.

Anyway, it looks good, though I am wondering how ( if ? ) they set the infinity adjustment because in many of those images, they've screwed the lens all the way in.

Otherwise it looks interesting. It's still not an AN/PVS-14 but then again, if you only have a MX10160 style tube, the MUM-14 (original) was often your housing of choice if you wanted Military Grade parts and ruggedness.

It's also going to be a snap to use the 3x afocal and other add-ons now by the look of it -

If anyone has one, I'd love to see more pictures and to know what else has changed.

Regards
David

They have a screw loose (3rd pic down) but other than that I would like two bodies & the dual mount if this (incorporates manual variable gain control for maximum scene optimization in all environments) means what I think it does...

We don't refer to the nice scientists at NiViSys as having a screw loose. We say they are "Eccentric" LoL!

Yeah, well spotted. Great quality control they have there... ;)

Nivisys featured this MUM-14A on ISDEF 2010 for the first time.
But it's not really a MUM replacement as the real MUM is from Insight (now L3)
I think we will see both selling next to each other.

Do you know who actually makes it?

No idea, buddy. It looks similar to Turkish Transvaro TV-MON but there are still many differences..
BTW, the MUM-14A obviously uses 11769 type tubes, not only 10160s.

Anyway, talking about Nivisys, has anyone heard about this one?
Nivisys SNVS - looks like some naval version of the M703E ENVIS, utilizing surplus optics from AN/AVS-6 goggles..

SNVS @ Naval Air Systems Command

We discussed it very briefly back here: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=18&t=347049

But otherwise I haven't heard of it since. I guess it's just squirrelled away in survival kits and they haven't made the mainstream yet.
