PVS7-3 vs PVS14
New to night vision.
I see a lot of talk regarding the pvs-14 but not much regarding the goggles
Any reason why the monocular is better then the goggles type units.
Thanks in advance

from what i have read...
depth perception and size/weight
i bought a pvs14 this year. i think the depth perception issue is a non issue. it's dark, my other eye can't see anything due to my other eye being overpowered by the pvs image. never used the 7 but having an eye free walking into a structure where lighting may change i'd prefer to have an eye free.
just my completely uneducated opinion
Just my take on the question here - with either unit you could end up with a great tube, but the compactness of the 14 & its multiuse role, multiable accessories, & mounting options give it an advantage over the 7's which require both eyes to be covered in use. With the 14, you still have a free dark adapted eye if needed. eta - if I'm in an area where there is not enough light to be amplified (dark room or deep woods) I just click on the vampire & keep getting it so to speak

) also, a pvs-14 with adjustable gain is very nice.......
I have used them both and I dislike the 7's as much as I like the 14's.

Why?
For me, the exit-pupil of the PVS-7 is the problem. For this reason I much prefer the PVS-14 which does not have an exit-pupil.
But some people prefer the goggles for the fact that both eyes get the image, even if it does not offer depth perception.

Well, I have used and still own both. I have owned the PVS-7B, 7C and the 14 . Big difference between the 7C and 7B ocular lenses. Speaking of purely comfort and balance I think you will be hard pressed to beat the PVS-7B. It is hands down the most comfortable and well balanced NOD I have ever put on my head. They are simply a joy to use and wear. That is the reason I still keep a set with a Omni VI milspec tube and use it very often.
Now to what I don't like. You are almost NEVER in complete darkness. Your unaided eye once dark adapted will give you more FOV and FAR better situational awareness. Tactically the PVS-14 is just far superior than a PVS-7. Both scopes use one tube so even though you are using both eyes with the PVS-7 you do not get any depth perception and in truth you get a closed in feeling. With the 14 you get some depth perception due to the information your brain is getting from the unaided eye. You don't realize it but your brain automatically fuses the two images and you get depth perception as well as a huge increase in FOV.
If I am moving slowly or sitting still I love the comfort of the PVS-7. Just feels great on my head. The 14 is the superior optic but the PVS-7 still holds a spot in my heart. I love it and I think I will always have one. Performance wise you can get just as good of a tube in a PVS-7 as a PVS-14. My AG milspec PVS-7 is a awesome scope with very high specs.
When my filmless tube comes in it will be one of the tubes I will be using for my review of the filmless tube against some very high spec thin filmed tubes.
I have a 14, and my friend has a 7, I absolutely cannot stand it. I always get this weird double vision thing going on. I can never seem to get it adjusted right to where I dont have something funky going on vision wise
Ill take a PVS-14 over a PVS-7 anyday

Assuming your friends PVS-7 is the B/D variant, it sounds as if it isn't collimated correctly. I suggest you check the collimation and adjust it if need be.
Can you use 2 pvs-14 to form a binocular on a head/helmet mount and have depth perception?
You can use a dual mount,
Dual Mount Have not picked one up yet, but it should provide as much depth perception as any other dual tube system......
I prefer the 14,s I have bought a few sets of goggles they just aren't for me. I prefer keeping one eye for normal vision when Moving around in the dark but will say pvs-7s are very nice and well balanced.
