Perhaps I misunderstood him, but I called the dealer I purchased my SBS from and he told me transfers take up to 6 months from dealer to dealer? On the bright side, he was a very polite southern gentleman.

Form 3s don't take that long.

Now a F4 to a dealer (from a private individual to a dealer) can take a long time, but not dealer-to-dealer.

My SOT says his recent batch of F3s has been taking 7-8 weeks.

Maybe he was an FFL/SOT in the early 1990's...

Was the gun you bought a consignment? Did he specifically say SOT to SOT?

It was on a Form 3.

He might not be an SOT. So even though he is an FFL, it'll be a tax paid transfer, and could take up to six months.

Form 3's I've seen take about 4-7 weeks. This is the Tax Exempt transfer form for NFA items.
Form 4's are the ones that are typically taking 5+ months. (though recently I saw one FFL/SOT dealer got a F4 back within a month.. yah.. he was shocked and had to post a scan of it to show us. )
