Driving with a machinegun, suppressor and .50 BMG
I'm going to be taking a long drive through the following states, and need to know where I can determine the legality of traveling with some class 3 guns. I will obviously have my paperwork and will plan to leave the guns unloaded. I also plan to carry my 1911 concealed in an IWB holster. I have a Florida non-resident CCW license.
The states in question:
Tennessee
Mississippi
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
The guns:
Anything I should be concerned about from a legal standpoint?
Thanks
Shawn
Legality: Keep all items unloaded in a locked case, stored as far from the driver as possible (trunk, etc). Ammo separate.
Local laws notwithstanding. FOPA.

Good info... I'm not familiar with FOPA, will read the wiki page...
Still looking for a good place to figure out if my CCW is legal...
Thanks

Make sure you have an approved 5320.20 for your M-11 to go interstate, as well. Suppressors don't need one.
Also, hi from Reddit, I recognize your picture from r/guns a few weeks back

Hi MrGreg... Didn't know about the 5320.20...

Very good point. I had assumed this was already covered.

Oh my god. I don't know how I didn't know about that form. I panicked after I read up on it and realized it was a requirement. I've never traveled outside Missouri with my machinegun since I purchased it. I did some googling beforehand to see which states would probably have gun laws that would allow possession of a machinegun, but had no idea there was a federal requirement to request permission to move the gun.
I freaked out, filled out the form, and just took the forms to the post office to be overnighted to the ATF. I have about 3 weeks until I transport the gun, I hope that's enough time. I heard some people have forms that take more than 6 weeks. I pray mine won't take that long.
I'm glad I asked and thanks MrGreg for the heads up on that form.

Yeah, I think when you mentioned in the OP that you had your "paperwork," NAM read it as Form 4 + 20, I read it as just the 4.
I've had Form 20s back as fast as a week and a half, but as long as 6 weeks (the latter being my latest, sad to say...sent early November, got it back December 24th).
I'd give it a week or so, then call and ask to speak to your examiner, and explain your situation. While I haven't tried it myself, I've read success stories of examiners approving Form 20s faster in dire situations like these, YMMV though. I'd just try to not make a habit of it.

You know....you can fax in your 5320.20s......

From what I read, you used to be able to, but not any more.

Hmm....it has been a few years since I did. If that is the case, it kind of sucks.

You can fax 5320.20s.
I know this to be true.
You can call the NFA Branch and ask permission if you'd like.
My last set of .20s took 6 weeks to come back. I mailed them. A buddy (and poster here) faxed his and had them in 1.5-2 weeks IIRC.
He had his guns for the shoot - I didn't have mine.
Before faxing anything to NFA Branch, unlicensed inidividuals should always call first and make sure they know the fax is coming. Otherwise, it can take forever to get from the fax machine to the correct desk. (FFLs can make arrangements for regular, routine faxing, without advance phone calls.)

Nope. You can fax them. I faxed mine, got them back like a week and a half later approved.
