I casted up about 175 pure lead mini-balls 370gr for a freind of mine.He let his freinds wife use his muzzle loader on a Mule Deer hunting trip
She took this mule deer below with it.He says they knocked it dead James...

Actually, they are maxi balls. Minies have a hollow base.

Anyway, good shoot. Meat in the freezer.

No good deed goes unpunished on the internet

But I've always thought the Minies had to have a hollow base. I bought a Lee Modern Minnie mold for my .54 and it casts bullets with a hollow base.

Whatever you want to call them, they are nice looking boolits and look like they did their job on a damn fine deer.

I believe T/C calls them Maxi-Hunters.

ETA: and lubes the grooves.

Those are the original maxi balls. The hunter had/ has a slight hollow point configuration. Good going- one of my cast 370 grainers finished off an elk in CO a few years back.

So many prefer the expensive, higher velocity saboted bullets these days. I cast my own 250gr &320gr Lee REAL bullets, they shoot great.
Very satisfying to drop a deer with a lead slug you've made yourself.

Both my 14 year old son and I used .54 cal Modern Minnies I cast myself to shoot deer this year.

I used the TC New Englander side lock and he used the TC Thunderhawk in-line. Both with 80 gr Pyrodex RS. One dropped in it's tracks and one took half a hop and fell over.

IT's a lot of fun dropping deer when you cast your own bullets.

They were cast well and look really nice. Not a wrinkle in them.
