All stuff you can find in the swamps around here.

Deer hide
A beaver I shot with my bow.
Some turkey feathers
A hogs tooth for the closure
Sinew thread to hold it all together.
Now I just need a good strap.

I like it. Are you going to make a leather strap or something like jute? I bought one of the jute ones from Track of the Wolf to use on a powder horn I'm making and it seems to be pretty well made if expensive for what it is.

That's wonderful! Just needs a good coat of grease and burnt powder to look 200 years old. I like it a lot.

Jute twine is cheap, weaving said twine into a powder horn strap takes more than a half an hour

Oh I know, it's just that you can buy whole nylon pouches and bags from overseas for less than my new strap. It is nice though and should look good when I finally get around to working on it.

My powder horn strap is made from buffalo wool. Someone had to shear a buffalo hide, seperate the outter hair from the soft inner hair, spin the inner hair into yarn, then finger weave, IE no loom that yarn into a strap, It was considerably more than 27 bucks..........

I'd like to see a picture of that if you have one. I can't recall ever seeing one like that. And yeah, I'm cheap. I'm not really into the whole buckskinning thing; I just dabble with it.

Thanks for all the kind words. I ordered a strap from The Weaving Welshman. Should be here in a few days. I may try weaving my own powder horn strap from hemp twine during my next underway when I have some time.
