Recommend me a Range Rod.
My first time out with my encore ML was a pleasure. Swabbing between shots I was easily and consistently printing 1.1" groups at 90 yards. This was with harvester crush rib sabots, hornady .452 250gr FTX bullets, and 100gr of pyrodex.
What was not a pleasure, was loading. Even worse was swabbing, because the rod that comes on the gun is just too short.
Now I've played around with a few range rods at the store, and they all seem too limber/flexible, or are made of something that will mess up the crown of my barrel.
Anyone have a good suggetion for a range rod?
Thanks gents.
I personally like metal ones. Most of mine are made from brass stock (3/8" diameter) one end tapped for 8/32, the other basically pinned into a file handle. I use it with a bore guide made out of a piece of delron.
I also have a 5/16" SS one. Basically the same as above, but BORE GUIDE IS A MUST!
I wish I could find another range rod like the one I have.
I got it 30+ years ago when I started shooting BP at a little shop in Bloomington, MN called Muzzle Loaders ect. The guy running the shop made the rods himself. Aluminum rod with big knob on the end he turned on a lathe with a brass muzzle protector.

Ive seen ones like that as well. It will take me some time to think about it, but I know I seen someone selling rods just like that. ( I can picture them on the rack, but don't remember where

That was the shop. Last time I was back at my parents the store was not there anymore. I remember as a kid riding my bike down to his shop to buy patches, balls, ect... for shooting my BP guns. Later on got my DL and a car so I could drive over there. A lot of gun shops wouldn't let a teenage kid in by himself. He seemed relatively tolerant of me.
