Hello All, I just bought a Walther PP for $300 and am looking for some additional information and "how I did". Honestly, it would be great to hear "you got a great deal" but OTOH if I paid too much I am not too worried as it will be a gift to my father anyways because he has has always wanted one. Ok, on to the stuff I am wondering about. The slide and frame have two different serial numbers. Slide is 3851XX P with an AC below, and also it does not have the big Walther banner on the left side of the slide. On the frame, the number is 3889XX. Is this a "war pistol"? There are no waffs. Also of note, there are no import marks. Finally, the handgrips are cracked (which looks like I could spend nearly half what I paid for the gun on replacement handgrips). Thoughts?

Edit: I have now added pics. Also, it seems the magazine is not original as the "PP 7,65 mm" is incorrect for a WWII mag and should read "PP 7,65 m/m"

Pics would help, but 300$ for a functional pp is a good deal.

I think your serial numbers are 1945 so it would be very late WW2. $300 is a good deal but the nonmatching numbers would take away a lot of the collector value. IMHO, I would not spend to much on grips for a non-matching PP. Pictures would be great.

In doing some more research it is quite likely that this gun was put togeather from parts when the allies liberated the Walther plant in 1945 (based on mis-matched numbers in the proper range). I would like to think it was a GI bringback, but no capture papers I dont think I can prove it. I will try and get some pics up by tonight.

Just get you a set of PPK/S grips off ebay. The PPK/S grips fit the PP. I got a set of nice walnut grips for my '77 .380 PP for about $30.00 shipped.

I think you paid a bit too much for a parts PP in the condition pictured but it should serve you well.

BTW....Is there a 5-pointed star stamped anywhere on the PP? If so it was built post-war for the French. I don't know who took-over the Walther plant but the French took Mauser and had them produce weapons for French use.

Agreed, you finish is very wore/gone, but the bore looks great. Still will make a great shooter.

No star. I agree, the finish is not great, especialy where the hand rests. What is weird is that the left side of the slide still has a great finish, but the right side is crummy. The bore is great shape, suprisingly considering the outside appearance. Like I said, I am not heartbroken if I paid to much with it being for my father and all. I also like the "history" aspect of it having two serial numbers, a conversation peice if you will. I will look into PPK/S grips, thanks.
