Price/Info check on M1 Carbine
Could someone give me a ballpark value or some additional info on this rifle based on the ad? I'm interested in it, but I don't know too much about M1 carbines.
BTW, the rifle looks to be in good shape in the pictures.
"Saginaw SG, serial #350xxxx from 1943 on receiver. Barrel shows 3-44 from Underwood. Stock has a cartouche of crossed cannons on it and the letters “RMC” as well. Stock also shows the letters “AAL” which I think means it was re-arsenaled by Augusta Aersenal Inspector “L”. Comes with two magazines (one is 30 round and one is 15 round). I also have 31 rounds of ammo that will go with the gun. Shoots great and is very accurate."
Thanks!
Assuming good condition, a Saginaw rebuild would probably start around $700. Can go up or down from there, one of the quirks of the carbine market is local variation exists. Saginaw is one of the less common variants, it may command a premium.
You need to know what the muzzle measures
Can you ellaborate on this?

If you have a M2 round; the type used in Garands, you insert the tip of the round in the muzzle of the barrel. If you have say a quarter of an inch left netween the bullet and the brass case, you are good to go. I don`t know if this holds true with a modern 30 `06 round.
What would cause the muzzle to be oversized?

Too much cleaning with a junky, jointed cleaning rod.

Can anyone confirm whether a modern round would work?
I don't have 30-06 ammo right now, but i could buy some. However i dont have access to M2 rounds.
Or is there another way to measure the muzzle?
Thanks for all of the help guys!
I use a M1 Carbine round. If the muzzle does not swallow the bullet all the way down to the brass then I am happy.

Great Thanks!
Does anyone else have any input on what the value of this gun is?
I saw the gun you are inquiring about on The Outdoors Trader, it's overpriced for what it is. You're better off looking at the CMP for sale forums or gunbroker.

Assuming the Carbine has a good barrel. I would estimate $700 - $800. It has been rearsenaled with a replacement barrel.
In my AO that M1 carbine would be about $600+ and add for mags and ammo. Bore condition and appearance well raise or lower that price.
Prices on war2 usgi rifles is going up faster everyday, seems like 20%+ in the past year.

A Carbine rd will not work and give a false reading as there isnt enough bullet showing to give a accurate reading
