Does anyone know what a fair price is for one of these in excellent shape with a mismatched bolt? I'm eyeing one on GB and I'm trying to decide what to bid. I have a nice one already but I bought it a while back for a price that wouldn't really be valid any more.

I looked @ that pic & said,"That's not a #5!" And then said,"Oh." Nice rifle.

I hope someday to have enough skill & equipment to cut a No 4 Mk 1 magazine cut off & have an ersatz Mk 6.

While I don't know enough about that variant to comment on the piece, itself, I do, however, recognize the infamous "gray blanket" (although, I always thought it looked like carpet, myself). So, I will say, "be very, very careful of that seller's auctions". I'm not saying it's fake, or wrong. However, a lot of his descriptions are conveniently lacking, or downright misleading. Also, he seems to have a talent for pulling in three times the current market value for a lot of the stuff he sells. I'm not sure how that happens so consistently, but a lot of people have theories. Again; be careful.

Mismatched bolt is going to be a noticeable hit. I've seen these go for over $1000 lately but I don't know that this one's worth that. $700-800 is my estimate, though as AKJP says, Larry's auctions tend to go higher than the average, and I might be surprised.

The Mk. V's aren't all that rare. They were produced in large numbers for a trials rifle (20K) and as they were not accepted virtually all of them survived both the trial and WWII as they sat unused in storage. The great majority of them were then imported into the US.

$800 seems to be the going price for a mismatched bolt one, the last few I have come across have been in that range.
