Bought an M38 Mosin Nagant today
Dated 1943, 100% metal finish. Few nicks in the stock, but they're very small. It's a gorgeous dark red wood color. Pristine bore, excellent rifling. $250 out the door with a sling and 20 rounds of Russian copper washed steel case surplus 7.62x54R. I had one several years ago, sold it like an idiot, and have wanted another one ever since. Finally found one in nice shape today.
For some reason your pictures did not load....

Ya, WTF?????

I'll take some nice photos of it outside tomorrow. Can't wait to shoot this thing. I've missed that "thunder&lightning" effect

WOW! $250.00 for a M38 nowadays? Glad I bought them cheap and stacked 'em deep.

Yeah, many of us missed the C&R train. I got a nice but non-matching one for $200.00 2 years ago.
100% ? Rearsenaled?

I don't think it was ever issued. Not counterbored and the thing is just pristine. How can you tell if it has been rearsenaled?

There is usually a mark that indicates that it went through a refurbishment process, but you can also tell by the type of finish, the if the font on the serialized parts, etc.

You can still find them for less, but you have to LOOK and be fast when you find them.
I got two over the weekend. $185 for the pair. Of course, one is REALLY rough, but the other is really nice.
I saw at least one more at the show that reputedly went for $110. Had I saw it first, I'd have that one, too.
Sure that's a M38? How long is the rear sight? Not counter-bored? Pristine bore? I'm thinking 91/59. Post a good pic of the reciever and measure the rear sight leaf for length. 91/59 > M38.

You might be onto something. That rear sight DOES look pretty stinking long. Are half the markings ground off it?
Can you post pictures of it and the barrel shank markings?

The rear sight goes up to 10. It was made in 1943 according to the receiver. For some reason I can't get 1943 to show up in the picture
NM, looks like an M38.
You can see enough of the date to see it's '43, too.
It's been refurbed and has an M44 stock. It's still a very nice looking carbine, though. And, finding them with a great bore that has not been counterbored is not easy to do.

It's a great shooter; I lucked out on the bore. The really nice looking stock and finish is what drew me to the rifle

^^^ True. Very few M38's and M44's missed Ivan's counterboring operation. That's what got me on the 91/59 track. The second pic is a little better and the rear sight is obviously a carbine sight. The 91/59's were cut down 91/30's and usually weren't counter-bored (no need to after cutting barrel). They also used the rifle rear sight leaf which is significantly longer than the carbine version. Ivan also milled off half of the markings on the 91/59 rear sights.
I
had a 91/59 and foolishly sold it a few years ago.

It was the most accurate Mosin I owned.
