 10/22 Takedown questions? - update

I have been eyeballing a 10/22 takedown since its release. I have been to a few gun stores to look at them. I have been able to handle 3 of them. When assembled 2 out of the 3 seemed kind of loose. One of the 3 I played with at the store was very tight. After I inserted the barrel and tightened the ring. I would try to wiggle the front and rear half. The 2 rifles seemed like they wiggled to much. I was wondering if those of you that have then, if they wiggle much? How is the repeat of zero using sights, how about with a scope?

*update* - I ended up getting one, it was very tight!

You are overthinking and undergoogling.
One review states they took the rifle apart 4 times and shot 5x5 for 25 total shots into 5/8" at 50 yards.
I doubt a stock standard one would shoot that tight.
There is an adjustment to make it fit tight as the gun wears. Instructions come with the gun. Could probably be tightened up at the store but it will increase the chances someone will buy it out from under you if you don't pull the trigger on it right away.
It needs peep sights. For that money if it had any kind of peep sights on it I would buy it. As it stands will need to spend close to 400 to get one with peep sights.

The ring at the front of the receiver tightens the two halves up.. I can adjust mine down to where I have a hard time locking it in it's so tight.

The gun is as good as any 10/22, mine has zero play.

i was able to "tighten the ring" and it still seemed pretty loose

Panther, the ring tightens it up and can be loosened. That's what you are feeling go look at it again

With mine I found an easy method to get it to lock up tight. Separate the halves, tighten the ring, try to reattach the front half. If it goes on without a problem take it back off and tighten the ring a few more clicks. Repeat until it's hard to attach the front half. Then back it off a couple of clicks. That did the trick for me, locks up rock solid now every time.

Ruger.com has a video on how to tighten up the ring. That was the first place I looked when this same question popped up in my pea brain.

read the manual that comes with rifle...

Back off the ring all the way...

Insert the barrel

hand tighten until it stops

Remove barrel and tighten 3 clicks

reinstall barrel

Drop the bolt 3-5 times to seat barrel

Shoot and enjoy

I noticed that too, but the sale doesn't start til 5/17/12. I doubt my cabelas will have any then, they were sold out last weekend when I went.

I want to buy it from there because I have about $175 in points

My rifle is tight, read Rugers instructions for best results. Some stuff on the web is incorrect on procedure.

My barrel is off to have the front sight relocated back to 16", threaded and bead blasted. Installed a rear sling swivel in the stock yesterday, and stuck a UTG pic rail on it.

Yes the standard sights are weak for anyone who has eyes over 22 years old. Trigger needs work also

But in the end the bag and the takedown makes it just a great little toy.
Riverview in CT was knocking them out for $299+Tax (I like those guys!)

Can you use the iorn sights with the scope base installed? (Assuming no scope is mounted)

It's close. I always swap out the sights on my 10/22's for 77/22 sights. They are just a bit taller. Brownells sells them.

Numrich usually kills you with shipping. I always have a full wish list at Brownells and just throw little items like these sights in.

I used to be a Numrich fan, till they changed their website a while back, jacked my account all up, and after 3 orders and calling their customer service about it 4 times it's still jacked up. I've not ordered from them since
