22 Lever Action
Who makes a reliable lever action 22 rifle?
I like my Marlin 39a and it's reliably feed everything I've tried 22CB, 22 Short, and 22LR.
I have a henry and have no compalints.
I think a lever action gun is so simple its tough not to make a reliable one.
I've been shooting a lot of the CCI "22 Quiet" out of my 10/22, and I figure since I have to manually cycle the action anyways, why not just get a lever action.
I'll take a look at the Marlin.
Thanks.
You wont believe how quiet CB's are out of the Marlin, it's amazing.
ETA: The only downside is that it is a pretty spendy rifle for a .22 but it is built like a tank and I have no doubt that it will be in the family a long time.
Get an old Marlin 39. I bought my 1955 Marlin 39A Mountie a couple years ago in great condition for $325.
I have a Henry H001T and Marlin 39a both are very nice shooting lever action rifles. the Henry is a little smoother action but the Marlin feels very well built.
Winchester 9422.

+1 I have a set in .22LR and .22Mag
My Henry 001 has been very reliable and accurate. Feeds everything and the action is very smooth.
The material's Henry uses for their cheapest .22 may not be the best, but I have a feeling that I will wear out well before the rifle does.

If you can find one, they're great rifles. $4-500 seems to be the range around here for one that is in good shape. I've put a lot of CBs through mine.
Marlin 39
North Haven Marlin 39As.
Hard to beat the Henry.
I have had a henry for 20 years and it still serves me well.
My dad gave me his 9422 that is older than I am and I grew up shooting it. The gun is to beautiful to be my backyard plinker. I just bought a Henry H001 today. The gun looks and feels great especially for the price. I can't wait till morning so I can shoot it.

I just picked up a NEW henry youth model lever gun a few hours ago and I'm pretty impressed by it...cycles smoothly and has a lot of heft to it for such a small gun.
$200 ;)
The Browning BL-22 is nice too. I have a Marlin, Winchester and Browning and all are nice. The Henry is supposed to work well and is a bit less expensive. Mossberg apparently makes one now too but I haven't seen one. If you are ok with a less traditional design the Ruger 96/22 is decent.
Older Marlins are the creme of the crop but new Marlins QC is hit or miss. Winchester 9422's are nice as well as the Browning BL-22's. Henry's aren't quite as nice build wise but represent the best bang for the buck.

You are right, the BL-22 is nice. The short throw lever is real slick, just a quick finger flick. I have a Grade 2.
I'm curious. on that TV show, "Swamp People", the intro clips always show one of them shooting what looks like a lever action 10/22. You only see the reciever area, so it's hard to tell for sure.
is there such a beast? aftermarket conversion?

Like from 1928 or earlier Marlin 39s?

Ruger made the lever action 96/22 for a while. Stopped a few years ago. I was under the impression they worked well, maybe they just didn't sell well. Made a .22 Mag version too.

If you want one to suppress its hard to beat the 96/22 with some bx25 mags

Have a Henry Golden Boy that I bought several years ago. Has had alot of rounds thru it with no hicups.

Been thinking about one of those for a few years - any down sides?
