regular ruger 10/22 or takedown & questions

Im going to be purchasing a ruger 10/22 or takedown in late May after I work a few weeks into my summer job.

My question is, would you recommend getting a normal 10/22, or the takedown model?

I know the takedowns run about 350$ and are about 150$ more than a normal 10/22

I would like to get a weatherproof synthetic stock and stainless barrel like the takedown offers. i also like how the takedown breaks down with the back pack.

Which would you recommend going with? How much do you think I could get a normal synthetic 10/22 with stainless barrel for?

One last question, how many rounds have ya'll run through your rugers without function? Barrel wear shouldn't be a problem for a long, long, long time, right?

I had a bolt action .22 that got stolen about a year ago. This will be my first semi and Im looking forward to shoot .22 while 5.56 is through the roof.

Depends on what you want. The TD model will be pretty much what you get, in other words, you can not customize with different barrels, stocks, etc. A regular 10/22 the possibilities are endless.

A regular 10/22 will be cheaper, but mods could wind up being far more expensive than a TD.

In my case, I got both. My TD ride around under the seat in my truck, and my other 10/22 is a tricked out target model.

Whichever you get, fix the trigger. It is cheap to do and DIY. Your groups will thank you.

If the make a take down model that can be custom by me I will be on line for one!!!!!
Other wise it's not worth it.

If you look around you should be able to find the takedown for cheaper. I've seen it at every gunshow for $298-305. I paid $305 for mine. Synthetic stock, stainless 10-22's usually sell for more than $200 so you aren't talking but maybe $50-75 difference. For that difference you get something no other 10-22 can do.

I can grab mine and go. Within the 20" long backpack case I have the scoped takedown rifle, 5 Ruger BX-25 25 round mags and an additional 1100 rounds of ammo.

Bring on the zombies!

If you want more carrying ability there are the molle attachments on the case.

I love this thing...The only thing I'd do different and I'd bet there will be an aftermarket option by the fall - give me a stainless folding stock to replace the buttstock with. Oh and if you don't know, there are 2 compartments on the barrell side. That second compartment by the barrell assembly would be perfect for holding a silencer.

TD no question, I've had other 10/22's and the TD is my keeper.

is the flip down sight sturdy on the TD? That's one thing I'm curious top know if it will break off or if its really on there strong.

Seems sturdy enough to me. It's the exact same one that is on any 10/22 I've owned so I guess if you've had them break off before - you could have that issue again. I've never had one break off though. Earl

The take down is a shooters dream. The capability is there, along with modularity.

If you want a target gun get the standard model.

not looking for a tack driver neccissarily. i want good enough accuracy to practice shooting and have fun. im not trying to build a 1 moa tack driver with a scope and custom stock. I just want a gun i can shoot for a long, long time very cheaply. I'll use it to shoot an occasional squirrel and loggerheads out of my pond that is infested with them.

the main reason for this rifle is because it is inexpensive and doesn't stop me from shooting the rest of the year. im a college student so money is tight as is and im definitely not touching my 5.56 stockpile (only 750 rounds ) while the ammo whores and panic buyers thrive.

from what i have read and seen on youtube the TD is very accurate.
