How hard is it to change barrels on a 10/22??
"How-to" is appreciated.
Remove magazine from gun
Check to see if loaded
Remove barrel band with flathead screw driver
Remove center screw on bottom of stock infront of magazine
Remove stock.
Remove bolts holding barrel on (should be two allen key bolts)
I don't know if it has changed- but on my 30 yearold 10/22 it was two Allen bolts (not difficult).
Bigger issue is if you have to mod the stock for the new barrel. As mentioned above, the two allen cap screws hold the barrel wedge in place. Barrel is just slip fit into the receiver. YOUTUBE has plenty of examples and demo's.
reinstall is just the reverse. WITH THE BOLT INSTALLED, slide the barrel back into the receiver and then rotate right and left till you feel where it hits the extractor on both sides. Split the difference and then tighten down the wedge. Little bit on each side to keep it even. Don't over torque it on one side and then then other. Finger snug it then quarter turns on each till tight. (Bit of blue Loc-tite can't hurt. BLUE!! not the other one)

This. Sometimes the barrel is still a little tight in the receiver. Hold the gun
with the barrel pointed at the floor and start pulling the bolt handle back and let it
slingshot forward. The bolt will pop the barrel out after a bit. Sometimes takes a bunch,
sometimes only takes a couple.
It's very simple. Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. I wish all rugers were so easy to dissassemble.

Warming the receiver up with a heat gun, or oven is a better solution to a tight barrel than using the bolt as a hammer. It only take a bit of heat to get it out. My 10/22 barrel from the factory wouldn't budge. A little heat and it pulled out easily since the receiver will expand quicker than the barrel.
On rimfirecentral, I think in faqs for 10/22S they show a rig using 2x4 wood, dowel, 1x1 wood, and a large C clamp.. I built one up, but I used a steel bar to wedge the barrel out. Made the job so easy.
