Was thinking about picking up a couple for my 11 yr old twins, but cant find much in the way of reviews. I found a bunch of reviews for the MP5 clone. Are they internally the same?????

Link to them

Would really appreciate any feed back from someone who has one.

Thanks, Joe

I'm biased since I own a Romainan AKT 98 22 AK training rifle. The rifle I have uses a real AK stamped metal receiver and is a real AK. The GSG is plastic and has a general appearance of the AK 47. From what I have read the GSG AK has not sold very well. A local gun shop has had a GSG AK for over 2 years and no one is interested in it.

Centerfire systems is selling the M-10 which is Romainan just like the AKT-98/WASR 22 and accepts AK parts. There are a couple on gunbroker right now and from what I've read the M-10 takes BDM AK 22 mags.

For kids the GSG might be OK but I have never had any desire to own one personally. When I bought my AKT 98 I wanted an AK to learn about the Ak system but still be cheap to shoot, which the AKT 98 has done.

I don't remember who it was, but a fellow Virginian won one in the 2010-2011 ARFCOM drawing. You can try posting there or look up his username in the prize thread if it's still stickied.

Please post a range report on the M-10 with pictures. The guys on The AK forum are dying to see how these compare to the WASR 22/AKT 98.

You would probably get a lot more replies from actual owners if you posted under the GSG-5 subforum.

I love my GSG-5's and GSG-1911's, but I passed on their AK-47. It just didn't look enough like a real AK. I have shot one before. It shot okay and was reliable and popcan accurate. But I decided to go with the real deal WASR-22 AK. It looks and feels just like the real deal and is 80% or higher compatable with a real AK-47. However, these are very hit or miss in terms of funtional reliability (trapped brass, failure to cock, double and triple taps, etc.). I've spent many a frustrating hour trying to rectiify reliability issues and it's still not 100% reliable. The GSG-47 would most likely be much more reliable.

I purchased one last year. Some of the plastic furniture fit was loose but was easy to correct.I added some weight to the butstock with foam to balance and eliminate the hollow sound. It has handled any ammo I feed it.Some problems evident after aprox.400 rounds continous without cleaning.Clean and back to normal. Not the most accurate 22 but not bad.Fun little gun.Just depends on what you are looking for.Nice part is service from the importer if needed.

Well, I have not taken the AK (I have WASR-22 AK).
But the receiver, trigger, barrel, and flash suppressor the Colt or HK are bizarre to take parts apart.
The real any AR Ciener, CMMG, Nordic, KIES, TacSol, DPMS, have real hand taken apart, no machine screws needed.
Same at the GSG for the HK, and the MP34.

Who cares how bizarre it is to take apart...it works and it works well.....have you ever taken a Ruger MK2 or 3 pistol apart?????probably the most bizarre set up you'll ever see in a pistol, yet it is probably one of the most popular pistols in the world.

I handled on at the gunshop. Certainly didn't feel like cheap plastic. It was all metal with real wood. Heavy too...I thought it was a nice enough .22. There arensome rapid fire ammo tests of this gun. Seems to eat up federal bulk...but jam on win./rem.

Id pick one up if I wasn't waiting for the STG 44.

Where are you guys getting the wasr .22lr from? I'd like to see how they are priced and look.

The GSG AK47 .22LR is priced around the $375 range. For another $100 you could buy a full WASR. I think that attributes it to sell poorly. Where as the GSG MP5 clone is in the $400 realm for full weight version, and the 9mm HK is in the 1500$ range. So you can easily see why those are so popular. Same with their 1911 at $300 vs a .45 1911 at $1000.

You might check gunbroker.com for WASR-22 or AKT-98 which are almost identical Romanian AK-47's in .22LR. These are no longer imported new, but go used from $350 to $550 depending on the time of year. However, there is a newer Romanian versions of these two former rifles that are coming now but are based more on the AK-74 format. These are called Centerfire M10-22 and they are selling for around $350-450.

Saiga (Russian) has come out with a new .22LR AK which looks to be better than anything on the market (better bolt/extractor system), but these are only being sold overseas right now. No idea of when or if they will be sold in US. I will buy one when they do. Check out theakforum.net and there is a complete subforum called WASR-22 which deals with any AK in .22LR basically (except the GSG).

Father-in-law has a GSG AK and it's ok. I have several AKs and own the GSG5. I looked at GSG AK when it first came out but if you've handled an AK before, its just not the same feeling. Parts which could have easily been interchangeable aren't. It just didn't feel right. Shooting it is fine for 30yd plinking. The side rail won't hold optics (atleast my kobra would not even remotely tighten down on the rail). Didn't like the remington bullets, runs fine with federal or winchester bulk pack. If you just want something that looks like an AK from 10 ft away and burns through ammo, it will do the job but not much more.
