History of the TAP Gamma+ and Rumors of a Successor
A little history surrounding the TAP Gamma+ and new rumors floating about a successor plate.
There's an enticing rumor afoot that there be another creative endeavor in the making, with the intent of replacing the Gamma+ with a more technologically advanced version that's still affordable. The code name for the project is SIGMA, although whether that will be the final product name remains unclear. According to sources who are familiar with the project but wish to remain anonymous, the plate will have slightly better performance than the Gamma+, while being able to handle exposure to gasoline/JP (something the Gamma+ had problems with). The problems with the liner and strike-face glue have also been eliminated. The plate is expected to have the same dimensions and weight as the Gamma+ and retail for around $249, which - being a brand new issue and with the other improvements - would put it at the top of the cost-performance ratio for armor plates.

interesting...
Thanks for the info.
Here is hoping that they can make them full size this time.
I also wonder what the author of that article is talking when he talks about the "underperforming triple-curve version still available in various spots on the web." I have never seen a triple curve GAMMA+...and I have spent my fair share of time looking for and buying these plates. The GAMMA-M exists as a SAPI spec plate, which has the SAPI triple curve, but it is clearly labeled as an ICW plate to be used with the OTV.

The triple curve is still called a Gamma and in some cases, it's advertised as a Gamma+. People who aren't fully informed often mistake it for the same plate, which it most definitely is not.
Now
official per Jerk the Trigger.
I reached out to Ray Bellia at Body Armor Outlet and was able to get even more information. This is officially no longer a rumor.

Cool.
Body Armor Outlet is behind the new project. They worked with a manufacturer to reverse engineer the GAMMA+ plates and improve them. They will also be the exclusive distributors for the new plate and it will retail in the $300-350 range. The plates are currently being tested and marketing is slated to begin in about a month.
Just wondering if the new Sigma plates will be 300-350 for a pair, or for a single plate. The way i read the article it seemed per single plate.
The Gamma+ could be bought (a couple months ago) for around 235 for a pair.
Interested to see what the improvements will be.
Will they be NIJ certified?
