I just picked up a Tacitcal Tailor 2-piece MAV at the local surplus store for $5. The color is either really faded or is has been dyed, I can't tell which. Anyways, it only came with the bottom strap that goes around your mid section. Does anyone know if TT sells replacements for this? I looked on their site and only found the X-harness. Or would it just be cheaper to find some nylon straps and buckles? If so anyone have a good source for them?
I picked up a Spec-Ops M.O.U.T. rig at my local thrift for a couple of bucks, and it was missing the harmess also. I called SO and they sold me the harness no problem. Later on, they had a full MOUT for sale for less than the straps alone. Oh, well.....
Give TT a call, and see what they can do for you.
I'm a little confused by your post, as the straps for the upper body are sewn onto the MAV. If the straps are still there, and uncut/unshortened, then all you need are some plastic buckles from TT. If they are missing, as in cut-off, then that is another story, and you will need to replace them, and unless there is a stub of webbing still there, then that usually means stitching-on some new straps. Here's a link showing the set-up as it should be:
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-armor/modular/x-harness. If you just have stubs of webbing left, then maybe the former owner converted the rig to use the X-harness, and cut off the ends of the straps. If so, then maybe buying the X-harness is the way to go, especially if you plan to load up your rig with a lot of weight.
OTOH, you might find that you can buy a new, complete rig at
www.greyghostoutlet.com for less than the cost of just the harness from TT. If your rig was damaged to the point where it requires stitching and new straps and plastic hardware, then you have a decision to make.
Once you have the harness, you can see if it's practical to make another one. Generally, doing so is fairly cheap, and usually not too hard. The main thing is to make sure the new Quick-Detach buckles/clips are from the same mfr as the ones already attached to the rig, so that they will interface properly. Quite often, QD buckles from one mfr will not work with those from another mfr.
Strapworks.com has the webbing you need, and a lot of buckles and so forth, the buckles being only in black.
Supplycaptain.com has tactical-color Fastex-brand (ITW/Nexus) buckles.
Google "National Molding" if that is the mfr of TT's buckles.

Thanks for the info. I didn't notice that the MAV had sown on straps. The straps on this one had been cut off and buckles have been added. I'll post some pictures of it in a while.
This should work for you and it's only $11.00.

But you should really try out the X harness. I have all my chest rigs (ATS, Eagle, Esstac) set up with the X Harness. Most comfortable way to wear one IMO.

Yep, I think the MAP harness could easily be adapted to suit your hacked-up MAV. Remove the 1" buckles that are currently para-corded onto it, and loop the back-side straps of the MAV harness through the top row of PALS webbing, then secure with supplied buckles.
Might be a litle trickier to adapt MAV X-harness, but do-able.
I added buckles to the back of my one piece MAV to make getting into and out of it easier. I did it a little bit differently though, I sewed the buckles onto some excess webbing it works great. get an X-harness, super comforatble. with a 1-piece mav getting in and out can be difficult, but with the buckles you can just undo one side and take it off over your head and out the side. it also interfaces really well the with the Source WXP I have on the harness.
sorry for the huge pics and thread hijack but I'm super proud of my modded MAV
