IFAK position
Do you keep you IFAK/Med kit on your war belt or you PC and why?
Thanks,
S
Chest rig... I don't always wear a PC.
I keep my full IFAK and tourniquet on my belt in a position accessible with both hands. The idea being that I will never wear my plate carrier without the belt, but I could (and often do) wear the belt without the plate carrier.
I also keep an abbreviated IFAK for traumatic bleeding and tourniquet on my chest rig since I use it by itself, but prefer it to be lower profile.
it should by conventional thinking go on your lowest level gear ie 1st 2nd 3rd thinking. i dont use or like a war belt so its on my PC on the right hand side next to the mag pouches so i can reach it with both hands
This is a common practice actually. Its to ensure that anyone administering aid to you doesn't have to search for your IFAK if ever one carries it in the same place.
Far right for righties, left for lefties; ammo goes on your strong side...the idea is to use ammo to prevent being wounded and to stay in the fight as long as you can if wounded.
now?
truck unless it's on my gear
in country?
left side - little behind "center" - partially SOP, partially it's where it worked best for me - far enough to the side that I could wear my pack over it without a problem
IFAK: PC 7:30
Tourniquet: PC 10:00
Tourniquet: warbelt 10:00
Reasoning: if your injured bad enough that you can't use the tourniquet and continue to fight... Someone else will have to work on you. Go ahead and get rid o. The idea that your going patch yourself up using fine motor skills while losing blood and going in to shock.
Right side for me so I can use my support hand to get stuff out and continue returning fire.
It looks like the Army has a new IFAK on the way, just read this:
