Ok....what's you guys' take on the Knoxx stock for a Remmy 870 Police?

The SpeedFeed IV-S that came standard on my Remington 870P-MAX is just a tad too short. It would be perfect for someone wearing a vest, but I'm .MIL, and I'd unfortunately never get a chance to use my own weaponry (even though my shit is better), therefore, its a tad too short for my application at the range . It'll probably be a different story when I DD-214 the heck out of the .MIL in 21 months, and become a cop, but until then.......

I'm considering trying out a Knoxx Spec-Ops stock, but wanted to get the opinion of the hive. I like the adjustability, and the ability to fully collapse the stock for storage, such as the way I do with my Benelli M4 w/ C-Stock.

I see it as win-win, as I'm trying something new, and I'm getting the collapsible feature. I'm aware the Gen 2 is out, but I've heard there are bugs to be worked out, so I figure I should be able to get a brand new Gen 1 for a decent price. What is you guy's take?

Here is the gun in question:

(Sorry, crappy cell phone pic, and the first pic I took of it....its all I got on-hand at the moment)

There is a reason why there are tons of Knoxx stocks being sold on the EE.

The Knoxx Breachers grip worked well for me. I could even shoot one handed with it at the range.
I also had the Knoxx spec ops recoil reducing stock, and both DID Reduce Felt recoil.
The only reason I sold mine is because I traded my Maverick 88 and Mossberg 590.

I do understand the cheek slap "issues" that people complain about, but I'm also of the train of thought that what may/may not work for one person, may work very well for the other.

My father loves his... I dislike it since I really don't like being slapped in the face.

Different strokes....

I think the whole point of it is really moot. There just isn't that much recoil in a standard 12g load. With proper fitting and posture the recoil should not be any issue.

Now, if I were pounding out those 3.5" magnum shells all day long I might reconsider.

I had it on my 870P back when I bought mine in 2008. I've sold it and now use a standard Speedfeed sport stock. The cheek slap issue is what made me sell it. I really don't like collapsible stocks on pump shotguns anyway. They ruin the balance by placing a lot of weight on the forend. If you do want a collapsible stock then get a Mesa Adapter.

When I had my 870 and knoxx stock, I found that I and my friends would get cheek slap only if we pushed our face forward, as if we were firing NTCH on an AR. If we kept our heads back further on the stock, it was fine. Getting a red dot for my AR also helped, since I stopped pushing my head forward on my AR and my shotgun.

Of course, I now have a Supernova instead of an 870, but I sold because I liked the Benelli better, not because I disliked the knoxx stock.

I don't recall cheek slap, but I've only fired my 870 once since I installed it.

Had a Knoxx stock and sold it because of the cheek slap, it really is that bad. Why not get a thicker butt pad to increase LOP?

Since you are running an 870, you could also look into the Mesa Tactical stocks.

Mesa Tactical

You can get it with a recoil reducing buffer if you are looking to help reduce recoil as well. I honestly would rather pay a bit more for a higher quality product like Mesa. Not saying the Knoxx stocks aren't good, just saying I'd rather have the Mesa. YMMV

The size of the buttpad on a IV-S makes that extremely difficult.

A "bit more" is nearly three times the price.

I had one on my 870, however I like the GG&G 870 safety and the oversize safety is not compatible with the recoil reducing version of the Knoxx Spec Ops stock. I experienced no cheek slap.

I have never experanced "cheek slap" with the stocks I have, the one pictured here has had thousands of rounds threw it and no issues. Buy it, try it, if you dont like it sell it and write it off as a lesson. You never know till you try.

If you know how to properly shoot the stock there is no cheek slap.

It seems its a matter of preference on cheek weld. I've always pushed my cheek into the stock as much as possible.

I love the knoxx recoil reducing spec-ops stock on my mossberg 500. This is the first I have heard of cheek slap.

I will have to pay attention next time I shoot it and see if I can figure out what you guys are talking about.

I have a T1 micro red dot on my mossberg which may modify my cheek weld enough that I have never noticed it.

My wife and I both really and I mean REALLY like it.

I like the Knoxx stock. I had on on the 870 Tactical I gave my dad, he loves it. I have one on the 870 Police Magnum I keep here at the house. I put a little lube in between the sliding portions to ensure it reduces as much recoil as possible. My wife shoots my 870 and said the stock makes a big difference. But, we are both smaller peoples, so allthe eye relief and cheek slap problems don't really apply.

I received the stock yesterday. Initial thoughts were that is is sturdy, and of good quality. A gripe I do have is that mine came with the Non-Recoil Suppression instruction manual, so I had to dig around online for the Knoxx Talon Stock manual so I could figure out how the hell to install the stock.

The stock is VERY sturdy, and it took me bearing my body weight down on the stock to get it to move. I'm gonna try and take it out this weekend. I'll let ya'll know.

Pics of it on my Remington 870P-MAX

I think Remington makes adjustment plates that should fit the SF IV-S, I'd look into those, or even a normal SF IV stock.
