I have yet to see any use for it. If it helps with muzzle flip as they say then maybe if a conventional stock is being used but I use recoil reducing stocks that do that so it would be of no use to me.

If you ask this question, about 1/2 say it works, 1/2 say it dosen't.

Anything indoors is going to be noisy. Porting is loud outside because it redirects some sound towards you. My 590A1 SPX doesn't sound any louder to me than my 870 when I shoot it outside.

I agree with JD. I feel no benefit to porting on my 590A1.

Do not waste you time.

No noticeable reduction in recoil.

Hard to clean. Acts like a cheese grader filling up the holes with plastic from the wads.

Very loud.

Did I say loud?

Shotgun porting might help a little bit with muzzle rise, but does little, if anything, for recoil. It certainly does not have the dramatic effect like a brake on a centerfire rifle or a compensator on a pistol firing a high-pressure cartridge.

Some clay target shooter that fire 200-300 or more per day might benefit from the small reduction in muzzle rise (lessens the stock hitting the cheek) over the course of a day’s shooting. Even with these guys ask 100 shooters and you’ll get 50 tell you it’s a waste of money and 50 that will say its OK but not that big of an improvement. When shooting only 30-40 rounds you’ll, never know the gun was ported, except that it is louder.

Does anyone know how to post one of them survey Post? Porting on a shootgun barrel would make a good one and I suspect it would be 50 - 50

Maybe there has already been one and if so, how did that come out?
