What Makes Dan Wesson 1911s So Good?

Just curious about this. Dan Wesson do their own milling or make their own parts, frames and slides? I used to have Dan Wesson revolvers and everybody disliked them (except me). I'm surprised that the DW 1911s rate so high, considering the revolver era.

But one and find out! J/k!

What made me decide to bite the bullet was the video of the valor outshooting almost everything. That, and the looks are great.
I bought one off the ee and loved it! I'm expecting my second dw on Saturday.

Someone will be along to link you to the video.

Btw I still kick my own ass for not snagging a dw revolver with the multi barrels from a buddy's gunship.

They are a completely different company now than they were 5 years ago or 15 years ago. They are currently owned by CZ-USA and they use a lot of high end parts in their guns. They just have a simple formula. Continual improvements, high levels of QC, and an honest product at an honest price. They keep their options and product line down to a small number of models compared to the big custom 1911 companies, but have a product line that still responds to their customer's needs.

Prices on them have been creeping up as demand has increased and word has gotten out. Buy one sooner than later. I've been saving for a DW Valor for the past 4 years. And every year, the damn thing goes up at least another $200 retail.

If you find one at a local gun shop you will see the quality is much better than other production pistols currently on the market. They also have the features many people want in their 1911's. Dan Wesson's are almost as good as the semi-custom 1911's on the market, but they are still production pistols.

My step brother has an Ed Brown Special Forces and he just picked up a DW Guardian. Both are amazing pieces of work. After shooting that Ed Brown, I can see what all the hype over expensive 1911's is all about and now I want one. His Guardian is awesome, it cost a little more than half what his Special Forces cost but it feels just about as nice. It's tight but smooth operating and just feels great. The attention to detail is amazing too. I want a nice 1911 and the Guardian may be what gets my money, I just can't decide which is fine because I won't have the money for a while

I think what sets Dan Wessons apart is the pride they take in what they build.

I had a pm3 that was my 1st 1911. I have since given that one to my dad.
Now I own this one.
I bought it used, and the idiot mark was already there.

My Valor is as tight as any custom job I've handled or shot, high quality parts that are fit far better than any other production model gun, accuracy and reliability is superd, clean lines, 25LPI checkering on the front strap and MSH, mirror polish feedramp and night sights. Nothing needs to be changed out of the box although I did put standard thickness grips (comes with slim line VZ grips) and a S&A magwell since that's how my other 1911s are set up.

Just got a Valor yesterday. Have not shoot it. It's 0630 range opens at 1000.
The fit and finish is very good, trigger is outstanding.
Will give a range report this afternoon.

Buddy of mine used to run a shop and I pretty much had free run of the place.
I got to handle all the guns, disassemble and could shoot any of the used guns at my club just up the street.

Any fool can make a 1911 tight by pinching the slide and jamming a tight bushing on the gun and while such tricks might help a old Colt shoot better for a while it isn't really the way to go.

All of the DW/CZ 1911s that came through were very tight but when looking close at them it became clear it wasn't because things were pinched down or jammed together , these guns were just made with very close tolerances. All the parts fit just very nicely. Very tight but at the same time
very smooth.
The stock CZ triggers are real nice right out of the box

When I handle a DW/CZ the other thing that jumps out at me is the features that seem to come as standard are pretty much just the way I would want my gun set up. Whoever sets up their models seems to think just like me!

The short answer is with CZ you get super high quality nearly as good as the crazy high priced custom guns with great features and at a price close to a stock Colt.

When talking to my friend with the shop we agree that CZ is across the board doing most everything just right on all their pistols and rifles.

This is the link to one of the best 1911 comparison reviews that I have run across. It includes the DW Valor and was a factor in my decision to purchase one.

The DW Valor is one of the best value 1911s on the market. Custom shop quality on a production cost basis.

I will never ever upgrade software on a computer/toy! I use a blackberry playbook. The upgrade doesn't send out what I type but what it guesses I'm Going to type.
POS!

I am still saving for a Black DW Valor. I didn't want to spend $3,000 on a 1911, but I don't care for MIM parts, pressed barrels, Schwartz safeties, etc. Plus, the Valor model is one of the finest looking "production" pistols built (in my opinion)! I suppose I had better buy one before the price goes up again.

It's either that or learning how to spell.

Back "On Topic". I have never seen a DW 1911 for sale, either in a gun shop or at a gun show. I have never seen one at a range or had someone show me one off range.
I would like to comment on them but I am at a loss on how to do so. I will have to just go by what I read here and elsewhere.
(Someone from Central Indiana will now pop up and tell me where I can go to examine several hundred of them just miles from my home as this is always how it goes.)

If it were not for this forum, I would not even know that DW made 1911s at all.
