Hello. I was wondering the worth of an old Colt 1911A1 with installed Novak sights and unoriginal grips.
Also, what would your opinion be on using such an old gun for one's regular duty gun.

By your description, the colt in question could have been made from 1924 through the present.
if it is a usgi gun, the value as such is destroyed by the addition of the novak sighs- in all original condition it will be a $1000+ gun, with mods it is in the 7-800range.
over on the 1911.org site they feel that since these guns were only heat treated in critical areas and not the whole slide they are not a good choice for a hard use pistol, some in fact say not to shoot them at all.
We need pictures. Lots of pictures including detailed pics of any markings or stampings.
An unaltered military 1911 would be worth anything from $1000-2500+ depending on condition and rarity.
What you describe is in the $650-750 range most likely.
