Any opinions on Iver Johnson 1911s?

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with them, or knows anything about them, whether it be good or bad.

I saw one last year at a gun shop and thought it was a really nice 1911 for the price. The frame to slide fit was actually really tight. I regretted not buying it and haven't seen one since.

I believe they have some relationship with Essex Arms, so I don't doubt they're made in USA, but I'd be leery of getting a quality product.

Well haven't the Phillipino gun ie. Armscor been good guns? I've heard only good things about the Rock Island line. Assuming they are just Phillipino re-brands, are they worth getting, and at what price?

I just bought one two days ago. I got the Hawk model in high polish blue finish. Slide to frame fit is as tight as my Kimber. The internal parts dont seem of high quality but probably on par with my Armscor. I will post some pictures and a more thorough review after I shoot it tomorrow. It did hand cycle my Winchester SXT JHP just fine. So far I really am happy I jumped on it when I saw it in my LGS. Also, it is definitely made by Shooters Arms Manufacturing in the Philippines. Cast frame and a milled slide according to the literature that I have read.

I may be having a brain fart.

I just looked at there website....these look nothing like what I saw at the NRA show in STL.

I remember, fine looking 20lpi checkering, Ed Brown safetys, etc.

I'm either thinking of another company, ...or I.J. was pimping out some hand built custom guns for the show

nothing like this...
