... Flat Dark Earth 1911 - All FDE or controls in black?
... not sure I like the looks of a 1911 with controls of a different color (black) from slide & frame.
Anyone here have a picture of an all-FDE 1911 I can look at for comparison?
Thanks

Desert tan, or maybe Coyote Brown, depending on who you asked, and when, is the closest that I can come with my Desert Warrior... but it hasn't had any
Failures
To
Extract...
old pic of my grp, its black now so no i cant take any more pictures of it.

I picked up the Sig 1911 carry "scorpion" recently and I have to say I really like the black accents...the black and FDE make a nice combo. Contrast is a good thing, IMO.
Also, some of the smaller parts are going to wear faster...black is easier to touch up, and it will match better on parts that may not be made of the same material as your slide/frame.
Scroll down the page on
Rogers Precision's website. I've always drooled over that one.
I had my Kimber Custom II done in FDE with Black controls. Grips are VZ diamonds. I liked the Kimber before, but LOVE it now !!
Go with the black...they are easier to change. If you ever have to replace a control, trigger, etc. Its hard to get the FDE to match the right shade. On the other hand, black is black.

Sorry, for the craptacular cell phone pics. I just got my old Colt Series 80 painted tan. Left all the controls tan, but had the barrel, barrel bushing, recoil spring plug, trigger, sights,& hammer painted black.

I like how the controls blend in with the frame.
I like it with black grips. VZ maybe if you don't cheap out on your build! lol
GunnyG...Dumb question.... Who makes those triggers? is it hard to install?
Never mind the wear marks...
Looks good to me. I don't mind worn / used looking weapons.

Not a dumb question: Look on

Install is easy. There are notches on the front of the hoop, for adjusting trigger take-up, as well as the set screw for over-travel adjustment.
It used to be sold as the Chip McCormick carbon fiber trigger.
My first attempt at refinishing.....

Thx Gunny! Ordering one now...
I know a lot of fellas don't particularly care for the "two-tone" pistols, but I really like the contrast. Either accents or say, a blued slide with stainless/chrome frame. Just does it for me.
... a lot of good points. Seems rational to keep controls black as they'll wear first from handling.
I'm not committed to the FDE, in fact I'm starting to lean toward the "
Burnt Bronze" look. It's subdued yet aesthetically appealing. Anyone here do your 1911 in burnt bronze?
WOW! those are really nice!

Ditto, that gun looks awesome. The wear marks add character, and show it's a shooter; not a safe queen.
That looks awesome! Nice job.
