I just picked this thing up and was hoping you guys could tell me about it?
-Year built
-Quality
-whats it worth
-anything else??

On the ejection port side it says 9MM MAK GERMANY
CAISTALBVT

On the other side it Has the SER# on the slide and frame which is C61XX
A little after the Ser# it has the number 60 and below that is a big letter y
Right above the trigger on the frame and right behind the safety there is a small Diamond or square. It also says K100 right behind the one on the frame.

It has brownish red grips with a star on them.

Let me know if there is any other info you need.

sounds to me (non-mak owner but mil-surp collector) like a 1960 East German Makarov. as I recall East German ones are really good quality, kind of like the Polish versions of stuff (AKs, Tokarevs, M44s, etc)

(PS it shoots 9x18 makarov ammo, don't feed it 9mm luger)

It gives a lot of info and markings and lots of good to know stuff about Makarovs.

You will love this gun. Everyone who shoots mine ends up looking for one for themselves.

I picked up one too...East German Makarov.

Built at a firearms factory in Suhl, Germany.

VERY high quality.

BE SURE the safety is all the way up...if it is just a tad off the weapon is NOT safed.

East German Mak, 1960, although the Germans used black grips with no star, so yours have been changed.

They have a reputation for reliability, they are accurate, but a little underpowered. Sort of a .380 +p.

Its a good gun..I had one before and really enjoyed it. I replaced it with the IJ-70, Russian...I have to say I like it even more!! Great little guns, that are easy to use, carry and will do just about anything you ask of them....enjoy your new toy!!!!

Russian Military Makarov made in 1980, looks like some sort of aftermarket or non-original grip.
Tons of info here; http://www.makarov.com/
