 Anyone else carry a Makarov?

I've found myself carrying my Pistolet Makarova more and more lately. It is only one of 2 firearms I've ever had that have NEVER had any kind of malfunction. You pull the trigger, it fires. End of Story. (The other non-malf is a Springfield XD). My particular Mak is a Bulgarian, I have some nice thick rubbery grips on it (not sure what brand). I got a nice cheap IWB holster, and have been wearing out where I can't hide my XD.

I recently had it at the range and did some friendly competition with a friend who had a KelTec P11. Me and my MAK held our own up to 15 yards out. Not to mention I was dealing with a lot less recoil and complained less about my hands hurting afterward.

I have, but not much lately. That'll probably change as it warms up again. It's a good little gun, reasonably accurate and reliable.

I carry mine every so often, they are not too bad, usually carry in my pocket but pretty heavy for that sooo, just got a no lock S&W 642 and that is what I'll carry from now on,don't even know it's there.I must say my Mak has been 100 % reliable.

Usually carry the CZ 82, but the EG Mak gets to go for a walk once in a while, it's a bit easier to conceal

I carry a bulgy. For me the Mak is a a great choice for discrete carry. Also (and I know this is a dumb consideration for a carry piece) but the Mak I carry had a well worn finish when I got it (but mechanically excellent and NEVER a malfuntion of any kind) so I do not worry about carrying against my sweaty skin when its hot, in the rain or snow, on the boat, or while working in the yard. I do know several people who cringe at taking their Kimber out on a rainy day.

I sometimes carry a Bulgy Mak. But like another poster here, I usually carry my CZ-82 instead.

I trust both the Mak and the CZ 100%. Both guns will go "bang" every single time without fail, which is the most important consideration in a carry gun.

My EG has been 100%. If it wasn't illegal, I'd keep it under the seat of my Crapillac when I go to places on business where the cops only go with two car patrols. That being said, I'd rather be beaten to death and robbed rather than violate the LAW.

I carry a Mak with Hornady XTPs sometimes, in the winter and when weight isn't as much of an issue.

The little Mak. is a great carry gun. You can't beat it for retention drills. It's who gets the first round on target first that usually wins.

Here’s a little Mak Trivia . . .

Did you know the Russian Cosmonauts carry a Mak in their survival vests ? ?

Yep – true ! !

I carry my Russian Mak when the .45 is to big to carry. I trust it cause I never had any malfunctions with it.

Exactly! May be a little underpowered, but by gods it works every time and is pretty darn accurate with that fixed barrel.

I was carrying my Russian Makarov with Federal JHP. I've only put 50 rounds through it since I bought it a year or so ago (but I have shot others). I'm a huge fan of Soviet/Russian stuff so I had to have one. I thought it made a pretty good carry pistol as others I own (such as Beretta 92f/s, Kimber Custom Stainless II, Glock 22, SIG P226) seem to just be too big for carry. The Mak was one of the only ones I had that made sense. I carried it or a Smith & Wesson 637 in .38 as my only two carry pieces. When it got cold I carried my Beretta in a custom fitted Galco IWB leather rig one time. Once. That was it. I'd love to have that kind of fire power at my disposal but it's too damn much to carry. Since I won't use mouse guns and I'm not a fan of revolvers the Mak made the most sense. It was still a little too big for me and I bought myself a Glock 26 as it was one of the smallest 9mm's that I could find (I know, now I'm a sellout).

I'll tell you that pistol is sturdy as hell, I totally trust it, and I'll never get rid of it. I'm still not opposed to carrying it at all and I'd rather have it over my S&W if I had to actually use it. I just like the Glock's shorter grip frame or I'd still carry the Mak. I might strap it once in a while though, just for shits and giggles.
