How is the accuracy of this pistol.

Is it minute of bad guy at 50 meters? How are the terminal balistics of 9x18?

At 7 yards I get 1 hole groups. I find my makarov to be very accurate. At 15, it opens up a bit, but my best groups are easily under an inch.

However I haven't shot this in a while due to ammo prices, and I rather shoot my glock. Dunno about the ballistics.

If you're Spetznaz, you should know!!!

Seriously: they are amazingly accurate. See the following link to my best (but pretty close to typical) 50' Mak group...

They are reliably 12MOA pistols -- you can ring a typical range gong at 100 yds every other shot or maybe better. (ETA: which is minute-of-vitals at any rational combat range, to answer that question)

As for terminal ballistics, it's pretty much .380 class, but with fewer ammo options. Best SD round (according to gellologists) is the 95gr Hornady XTP.

Well, I was just IM'd by a friend who spotted my post (it was up for maybe a minute!) and has informed me I'm an idiot -- here, according to him, is the REAL dope on gel testing of 9x18 Mak (have to say, it appears my recollection about Mak ammo isn't all that accurate):

I have heard the reason the Makarov is so accurate is because it has a pinned barrel which is fixed in place. Even with the barely adequate sights (tiny), it will shoot very small groups at 25 yards.

I'm not sure why you'd be shooting at bad guys at 50 meters(!) with a Makarov but if they came a little closer you could put some well-placed holes in them.

I have fired an East German Makarov that I was able to shoot better than any other handgun I have ever fired. It worked for me.

As to terminal ballistics, only the hottest loads approach 9mm, and it is just about impossible to find those hotter loads anymore. Concerns with some of the non-Makarov 9x18 variants have apparently caused manufacturers and importers to shy away from the best loads. We could sure use a good +P 9x18 load.

A downside to the Maks I have fired is they throw brass into orbit, so it is more challenging to save it for re-loading if you are in a rustic setting.

I bought my Bulgarian Mak in 98 and will never part with it. You are right about the pinned barrel and the tight grops at 25 yds. I've gone rabbit hunting with mine and have no problem whacking one up to 50 yrds. (big Jack Wabbit). I have shot many 9mm in different guns and for some reason I like the 9x18 better. For the $$$ you won't get a better gun.

+1 Big Time.

My EG Mak is the most accurate pistol I own,...... even with the teenie-weenie sights

Hope this helps

If you look over on glocktalk, M2 has some pics around of him shooting his makarov at 100-150 meter targets.
