 p12-45 question

Picked up a sweet p12 locally. I stripped it and cleaned it really good. Looks nearly new. Shoots great with no malfunctions. My question is why is there a plug and just a little nub for a guide rod? I love this gun but my OCD says there should be a full length guide rod in it. I've read all the bs about the original extractors not ejecting properly. I went through 4/12 round magazines of cheap fmj ammo just to check function and its great.

Has anyone upgraded their p12 to a full length guide rod? This gun is beefy and on the heavy side loaded up with 13 rounds of 45 but for some reason I feel safer carrying this beast than my 380.

P12 uses a commander length guide rod, IIRC. You can also send it back to the factory and get the upgraded guide rod from them. I use a P12 slide on my Warthog.
