Please help me in solving a mystery for me. I have searched the internet high and low to find out what the real differences are between these two guns. I want to purchase one of them but cannot decide which one. During my internet searches the only thing that I can find different between these two guns are as follows:

1. MK23 is a much larger gun.
2. Manual hammer release lever on the MK23.
3. Some kind of hexagon barrel.(I am not sure if this is in the USP but I do know that it is in the MK23)

That’s it. That is all I got. Now there has to be more to the MK23 than what I have mentioned above. I say this because the MK23 is physically larger than the USP and cost double. So what am I missing? Is it double the cost simple because the gun is labeled MK23? Does the MK23 actually perform any better then the USP Tactical?

The MK23 is a larger gun. It has a seperate decocker from the saftey. It has a longer barrel. It's set up to take the military's LAM.

I love my USP 45. I just shot a MK23 a couple weeks ago. I like the MK23, but prefer the USP Tac. I plan on getting one. All USP's and the MK 23 have polyganol barrels.

I also like the fast followup shots of the USP. The larger slide of the MK23 gives it a tad more muzzle rise, as you have a larger, heavier mass of steel moving. A large number of Spec Ops units recently got USP 45's because they were not happy with the size of the MK23.

Well, that's pretty much the difference. The size is really the main thing to you, a normal, non-snake eating consumer. They're friggin huge. You could put a "K" grip on it, and it'd work fine.

Several of the SEAL teams around here (Virginia Beach) have local purchased the USP Tac in block lots for issue.

Personally, I'd buy a Tac over a Mk 23. I think it's more versatile for the average consumer.

A select fire MK23 would be kinda cool though.

There is one other difference that I know of, or maybe two.

One is the threads on the barrels are not the same. A suppressor for one will not fit on the other.

I think they also take different magazines.

For real detail I'd go to:

These guys are hard core HK ophiles.

Your correct on all of those. The HK USP45 Tactical has a left hand thread, with the HK Mark 23/MK23 mod 0 OHG being a right hand thread. Two different types which each require a different sound suppressor. They both take different magazines, the HK USP45 Tactical's will run of any .45 USP fullsize mag, the Mark 23 needs its own. Also the LAM module will not fit on the HK USP45 Tactical. Other than that it is all the differences posted above.

There is also a review of the HK USP45 Tactical on the HK-usa website. www.hecklerkoch-usa.com/pages/corporate/recent_frameset.html
