Anyone using cast lead in their 75?

Just wondering how it works out for you. About how many shots can you get between cleaning the lead out of the bore?

It's getting tough to sustain the amount of shooting/practice I like to do with my P01, So I might actually start reloading 9mm

I did not start out using lead when I first bought my 75-BD back in 2002; I believe I was using either FAE or WWB FMJ. One Sunday trip to my dealer for ammo, I wasn't paying attention
to all the details on the box label. It was 250 rds of 9mm at a very good price; the stuff was reloads made by a factory here in CT whose ammo I knew was also sold
at the range. I didn't realize the lead bullets until I got to the range.

I believe I shot about a hundred rounds of it at my first visit. Something sitting in a memory chip way back in the recesses of my brain said not to mix it with my regular FMJ ammo.
I asked the range owner about it, and he confirmed it was best not to mix. He pointed out the bore cleaner he had for lead, and i bought a bottle. After the first visit, I couldn't wait to finish
shooting off the rounds. The powder load was very low, very smokey, and terribly dirty; my 75 almost had a problem ejecting a few of the rounds. I ended up using Breakfree Gunblaster on the pistol right outside the range, but out of sight of anyone inside, because of the black residue that it left behind on the parking lot surface.

At my next visit to my dealer, I bought my first supply of CCI Blazer ammo, and it was love at first shot. The 75 had no problems handling the aluminum cases, my wallet loved the price, and cleaning time was significantly reduced. I have not bought lead rounds since.

I have a CZ 75B in 40 S&W and shoot 175 SWC & 180 LFP thru with out a problem. I have used Zip and WSL powders for the loadings. Haven't had any problems with my reloads.

I shoot cast lead almost exclusively. If you get the right hardness, and match that with the correct speed, you get almost zero leading in the barrel. I usually go 500 rounds between cleanings, and could go more.

Sounds good.. I realize posting loads is probably a bad idea.. So I will ask this way.. What's a good powder to start with, and what is a good velocity to start at with a 115 or 124g RN ?

Depends on the lead alloy you are using and the hardness it is. Some like an economical load, and others want something that they are not going to accidentally double charge. :(

With the 124gr Missouri River Bullet, I am pushing right at 1000fps with HS6. This load works great, accurate, not very smoky, and if you double it will overflow the case and make a mess of your reloading station.

For economical I use Ramshot Zip, again right around 1000fps. I can get almost 1200 rounds from a pound doing it this way. Pretty smoky, so I only use these for my practice loads that I won't be using in competition.

Bob,

If you have not seen the information on reloading for CZ's in particular, make sure that when you setup your dies that you chamber check 10 or 20 to make sure that they go freely in and out (no sticking). Do this every time you change bullets and or brands. I also test a batch of 100 by shooting them before I use them for any matches. As a side note I prefer the truncated cone ones as I have less issue getting the depth correct and they *seem* to feed a bit better in their lead counterparts.

I also realized that I did not state the velocity correctly, that should have been 1100fps, not 1000. I have pushed the 115's at 1200 with no problems, but my pistol prefers the 124's so that is what I use.

Has anyone slugged there barrel? I currently shoot lead through a 92fs, but due to bore diameter issues I get leading problems unless I use larger diameter bullets.
