Need a Barrel for my FM Argentine Detective Hi Power Pistol
I cannot locate a barrel for my FM M95 Detective Argentine Hi Power, When I bought this pistol full size slide assemblies were available . I have yet to find any source, and web searches to Argentina have not given me any leads.Perhaps someone can help me out . Thanks, Ron
Do normal BHP barrels not work in the shorter "Detective" variant?
Can you turn down a standard BHP barrel? Why do you need to replace it?
I've seen this come up over in the 'Hi power forum' a couple of times.
Other than the occasional one that comes up in Gunbroker, the only other choice seems to be to have a gunsmith turn down a normal 4.7" barrel into the shorter detective.
Can you give me a lead to a reasonble source for the Barrel ? My barrel has a crack in the chamber ! I do not dare to fire it , and I like the pistol. So any sources for a barel I would appreciate. Thanks again, Ron
Could you post a picture of the crack in your barrel?
I know nothing about the 'detective' length barrel, but 99.9% of hp barrels are a two piece manufacture with the seam being visible at the breech
As explained by Steven Camp on his website, which some consider to be the holy grail when it comes to all things High Power
Now if the crack isn't that seam, and you need another barrel, Sarco has the normal 4.75" barrel, one used and one new. You might inquire about the used one, because if you can't find the detective length, your only option might be to buy a normal length and have a gunsmith shorten it for you.

I believe Sarco was importing those FM Hipowers and sold the detective kit –– complete slide assy with barrel. Best would be to
call them and see if they can locate a barrel for you.
Brownells has some Hi Power barrels made by Olympic Arms. It is a match grade barrel and I bought one for my FEG clone. It was a little tight operating the slide at first, but it loosened up quickly and functions fine. I'm a horrible shot, but even I could tell that this barrel is more accurate than the stock FEG one. List price is $123.33 and the part number is 795-035-001
If you have a C&R license, the price is a good bit lower.
edit: The barrel at Brownells is a full size barrel, not the shorter one. Sorry about that.
I thank all of you for your help. I called Sarco the company which I bought this pistol from. And I had owned it past a year, and only recently really fired it at the range. I used commercial 115 grain ammo. About less than 400 rounds through it.( I can post a photo of the crack if you wish to see it.) Sarco pretty much told me they have no FM's and could not tell me where to locate a barrel. They wondered why I would even ask them about any assistance with this problem. So, I am waiting to see if they will sell me a barrel. Perhaps Sarco will be a last choice for buying anything else. And I will conact Brownell's. I really enjoyed this pistol and it was very accurate. '
Sarco has responded on a a positive note to try to resolve my barrel issue. And I did hear from an Argentine source that has a barrel if I want to buy one for $150.00 (U.S.) plus shipping . So now I have options, and I thank all of you for your input.
I'm late to the show, but I recall an article in the past where C&S did some work on the compact Hi-Powers. Not sure if they would be able to help you out or not.
