Does anyone have any experience with either the 9mm or the 40S&W Stoeger Cougar?? I know the Stoeger is under the Beretta company...but my concern is quality control.
I am concidering one but would like some feedback..
Thanks

if you look/search the beretta part, you should find some comments.

i have one of the berettas and stoegers. to me, there is only a tad dif in quality and thats in the finish. there is also some minor cosmetic differences between the 2. i cant remember at this time, but are minor.

i wouldnt hesitate to buy either one.

have you looked at one? if not, do so.

The Stoeger is a Beretta. They are made on the same tooling with different markings by the same parent company. Stoeger just got the .45 machinery back up and running so they will be out again soon. The only difference is the finish and that is trivial. Parts interchange so if you find a .357 Beretta barrel you can convert the .40 Stoeger.

one of the better guns for the money. Sold a lot of them, everyone was happy.

Thanks for the info, I was wanting a 9mm, but a dealer about 20 miles from here has a 40S&W for 399....I guess I will go after it soon as the snow clears..

i own a stoeger cougar in 40s&w. double action trigger pull is quite heavy, but the single action is pretty nice. mine has pretty sharp corners at the rear of the slide; i've never thought about using it for conceal carry due to this and the heavy DA trigger pull. rotary barrel is interesting.

I picked up the Cougar 8040 Tuesday morning, been too wet to get out anywhere to shoot it. The sun is out, today may be the day for a test run...

I found a dry place to shoot....I have to say that I am impressed. I was shooting the Cougar and my newly aquired Walther P99 40S&W. I love the German workmanship of the Walther...but I shot better with the Stoeger.
My first shot was a little low, but I think it was me..After that, I hit everything I aimed at...A fine weapon, and one of the best deals around..

I shot one two days ago. It was brand new - it went trough 100 rounds - no failures, and very accurate at 9-10 yards. It seem to me a good value and makes me want to buy one too..

New for 2010 Stoeger Couger in .45acp 8045, I have a Beretta 8045 and a Stoeger 8000 in 9mm.
I will be getting at least one Stoeger 8045. Bob

Little update - end up buying one and put 150 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of hollow points trough the gun in one day. No jams of any kind, and very accurate. Not bad for a 400 bucks gun made in Turkey.

Stoeger cougar is like buying a Beretta 8000 for 1/2 the cost. Great weapon and very reliable. Get the wood grips with the Beretta medallions and you have the Beretta.

I really like mine. It handles way better than a 92. I wonder why it never replaced the 92 in sales

I have one as well. I purchased it about 1.5 years ago and only have 15 rounds through it. I've been able to carry it with a Crossbreed Supertuck but, It's just to heavy for me.

I really like it.

Just a small update, Ran 150 rounds through it today. No issues at all. Very happy with it.

Bump because I saw this one at Gander for $450, meaning my good gun shop can probably get one for me for ~$400, so I'm very tempted.

Rotating barrel ftw

Just keep it clean and lubed. Mine has 500 rounds already - not a single malfunction. My girlfriend has one too, hers probably have only about 250 rounds - but also no malfunctions.

I just picked one up LNIB for $275 at a local shop. I am really impressed with it. I think the fit and finish are pretty good. It handles great. The feel is nice. Much better than a 92 IMO.

I'm going to run a few hundred rounds through it this weekend, then employ it as primary HD weapon for my GF.

Hehehe.. I did the same. I got one and realized it was a pistol, and end up giving my GF another one. There is almost no recoil in 9mm and fits her hands well. It also serves well as a car gun. If someone steals it, is not so costly to replace. Not sure if does well with +P's. So far I have shot only regular pressure ammo on the gun.

I liked the .45 Beretta Cougar.

Stoeger never revived the .45 model, but I'm sure the 9mm and .40 are both straight.

I molested the 9MM Cougar(sounds kinda kinky doesn't it?) at the SW in Medford.

I was very impressed. It looked like an excellent gun for $400

I'd like to see the 45 version in person.

Anyone carrying these on a daily basis?

Here is some pictures of me carrying the gun IWB in a Crossbreed supertuck. The only way I can conceal it, Is to stay standing straight up. If I bend over or sit down, It stick out like a sore thumb.

A friend of mine just bought one of each. 40 and 9mm. He has been carrying concealed with them.

He is not a big shooter but he seems happy with them.

Here's the one I picked up for my GF at a local shop. Fit the bill for a cheap, reliable handgun that she felt comfortable shooting.
All i did was paint the grips pink for her.

And now you don't have to worry about it getting stolen from her.

My Stoeger on the bottom. It was the Cabelas edition in silver and like some others in this thread have said the finish isnt perfect but it still is beatiful in the eyes of most. It is a reliable gun I usually use as a truck gun.
