what about bersa pistols
Are Bersa pistols quality enough for carry, thinking about the 9mm
Well I haven't owned a Bersa but I sell the crap out of them and don't see any returned.
Solid, no frills, pistol. Crappy trigger. Wife carried a .380 Thunderer for a while. No issues.
I have three. Thunder .380, Concealed Carry .380 and a ThunderPro High Capacity 9mm.
They all are a pleasure to shoot. Maybe I am easy to please on the trigger issue. or, it could be that I also own a Kel-Tec P11 so most anything would have a sweet trigger after that.
Only issue has been the Concealed Carry had a trigger spring break about the 4th magazine in. It is on it's way for warranty work. I am seriously considering a Bersa/Firestorm Ultra Compact/Mini .40 for cc. I read nothing but raves about this model, especially in 9mm and .45. Seems .40 is a rarer bird to find. So far, have not had the first FTF-FTE or misfire. They have eaten any cheapo ammo i have put through them such as Federal and WWB.
I have no problem recommending Bersa for the range or self defense. Such is my experience
These are the targets from my recent range trip where unlimbered my Thunder .380 for the first time. It was also my daughter's first time to shoot a pistol.
Her is on the left.

Does Bersa make a 1911 model? Seems I heard something about one?
Firestorm (a sister brand?) makes a 1911 model, but my understanding is that it is not built to true U.S. Army 1911 specs, so parts are not interchangeable, which would be negative.
Oh, just found this so I thought I would mention it to the original poster. Seems to be some endorsements for Bersa here also:

I've read many good comments about the Bersa 380 and recently have been researching more about them. In doing so, I ran into lots of info on the 9mm Bersa autos that looks good. They have a new polymer 9mm out but my FFL can't find one in stock. The new polymer is the one I'm thinking of now.
I picked up a model 85 about 4 years ago that I like. I can't post a picture from work but here's a link to what it looks like and info on the model 85.

But they use the best plastic. How about something to back that up?

Go look at the Bersa Talk warranty forum for a good idea of common problems people experience. They all seem to be resolved rather quickly by the warranty guys (who post in the forum). The only issue I've had with mine is grip screws falling out because they didn't have thread locker on them.
I don't shoot it much any more because .380 is such a rare commodity and I like my Sigs more, but it seems like a solid enough gun. They need about 200 rounds through them to break them in or you will probably have some FTE's. (Thunder 380)

Prove it. My inferior Bersa has been absolutely flawless.
My wife has one and so do I, never had any problems are jams whatsoever. The one I have is around 20yrs old
Well . . . . I don't have one in 9mm but I have one 380 ACP with well over 1,000 trouble free rounds thru it.
Also have a pair of the FS-22 models (Firestorm - made by Bersa) 10-shot 22 autos. One has well over 5,000 rounds thru it. Use it in a beginner's pistol class that I teach.
Very happy with my Bersa pistols.

They had a 1911, but not currently (at least that I can see on their US catalog). It was not a true Bersa make, though. It was made by some company in the Philippines and sold under the Firestorm brand––all of Bersa's stuff is made out of Argentina. It got fairly good reviews, though. The only complaint I read about is that the trigger was a bit stiff.
I have a BT380DLX that I love. I'd love one of their compact guns in 9mm or .45 ACP if they put them back on the roster. I've read and heard nothing but good things about them, though.

Sounds like the Kel-Tec pistols. The alternative to a 200 round break in on a Kel-Tec is to fire a mag or two, then disassemble and look for wear marks, using those marks as a guide for what surfaces need to be polished (the Kel-Tec 'fluff & buff'). Made a big difference on the two Kel-Tec's I have polished.
had a thunder 380 for a couple of years . one of my favorite carry guns , very accurate and dependable . I forgot to lock my truck door one evening a couple of months ago and some bastard stole it .
I went to replace it but I saw a killer deal on a beretta 92f and bought that instead . I will buy another bersa in the near future.
I love my Bersa 380, I have shot 1000's of rounds thru mine and It was the best $240 I spend on a gun. Only inferior part may be a user. The Firestorm the 1911 pistol uses all the same parts as all the other 1911 clones use, contray to what someone reported. The Firestorms is another great gun, if you can find them.
I own a bersa 9mm ultra compact and I'm extremely happy with it. Break in consisted of loading the 13 rd mags - people rarely report problems. The frame is anodized aluminum and the slide is steel. I'm told the barrel is a standard grade ballistic steel. It's a boringly easy to shoot gun. Accurate considering the 3.5" barrel, negligible recoil, very comfortable grip. DA/SA action, light trigger in SA, safety/decocker lever. Tolerates limp wristing with no problem. Take-down consists of flipping a lever - field stripping is extremely simple. Also has a loaded chamber indicator and an integral lock if you need it. Lifetime warranty and fast turnaround from the warranty center if you go through the guys that post on the bersa talk forum. They're inexpensive but they aren't cheap - very good value for the money.
Note that the bersa 380's are blowback pistols while the 9, 40 and 45 are locked breech design. The 9s & 40s also come in a hi cap version with a longer barrel and 17 round mags.

Do tell. I have been misguided. Everything I have read is that the Firestorm 1911 is not compatible.......please elaborate on your experience with this gun. Thanks in advance.
Edited to add:
I have received confirmation that the Firestorm 1911 is, indeed, 100% compatible!!!!!!!
As an owner I have been very happy (Thunder 380).
They are solidly built pistols. Fixed barrel, blowback design. Helps with recoil and accuracy.
Large and heavy for a 380 (compared to a KT P3AT/Ruger LCP), but that helps with control too.
I would consider one of the 9mm's in a heart beat.
Forget that 'inferior metal' troll BS.
