 My new CW9 Covert

I had been wanting to get a Kahr for years. I got glocks (19,23,26,35), and I got a little P3AT in a great pocket rig, but I wanted something in the middle. I had wanted to get a Kahr P9 Covert, but they were discontinued a while ago.

After chasing used P9s and Coverts on GunBroker, I finally just had Buds send a CW9 to my local FFL. I put a Galco M7X matrix OWB holster in the cart at the same time and its turned out to be a great rig.

I carried it for a day stock, and worked up the nerve to make my own Covert. So I cut .5" off the bottom, added a PM9 magazine, and its the best carry gun I could ask for. I shot 100 rounds last Saturday, its been flawless. Recoil is light, a little more than a G19, but feels less than the P3AT 380. I had to drift the rear sight a little to the right, and its now dead on. After doing a few mag change drills, I filed the sharp corner of the slide release. I also added the bike tube grip. Now I need to put an another hundred rounds through it. Next month, I see a Dawson front night sight heading my way.

The cut down process is dead simple, cut a little longer than final, very close to .5", and then sand, fitting the 6 round magazine as you go. The hook on the stock CW9 mag just makes a serious point which really sticks out when carrying. This way is much better for me. I could pocket the gun if I wanted to, but on my hip, I literally forget its there. Compared to my Glock 26, the height and length are very close. But it feels like a .5" thinner. Really probably like .3", but it feels so much more. Yea I give up 4 rounds, but... I got some spare 8 round mags. Its also like 5 oz lighter than the Glock.

This is the stock CW9 mag, you can see how its much shorter cut down:

By doing it yourself, you can avoid the notorious Kahr GAP:

That looks nice. I just don't have the nerve to try that. Afraid I'd screw it up.

Very nice work. I to wouldn't try it as I'm really happy with my CW9 as is but that's not to say that you didn't do a great job. Very cool stuff. Nothing beats "doing it yourself". Just finished putting another 200 rounds down the pipe today for a total of 400 rounds in two trips to the range and, I'm knocking on wood, not one FTF. I'm very confident with the CW9 at this point. Cleaning is a snap, the Agrip cuts out the cheese grader for a grip and I'm just about consistent with accuracy while fully used to the trigger (which I really didn't think was a big deal as many on other forums feel is too long of a pull, but to each their own).

But not to veer off topic, great work bro.

I was thinking about A-grip. Got a pic of the Kahr with Agrip? My wife has Agrip on her two Glock 23s for duty.

A month ago I would have said the best, first gun for anyone is a Glock 19. Now I am not so sure.... CW9 is a great gun.

Haven't uploaded pics in a while on the forum. I'll be sure to take some snaps tomorrow at work for 'ya. To be honest I didn't do the cleanest job of cutting the Agrip but it does the job and feels great. Has that suede feel that's on the fuzzy side. But I'll post a few pics. Have a good one.

I have been thinking about doing this to mine and getting a ankle holster for it. I tend to carry my g19 all the time now but sometimes there is a need for running an ankle holster instead. I may have to do it now. I believe you've sold me on the idea.
