I love the gun, but it doesn't love me.....
A while back I bought a Kahr K40. I absolutely LOVE the way the gun fits in my hand. All the controls are withing easy reach. All in all, it seems a match made in heaven, or does it? I'm assuming that you all have seen the movie "Judge Dredd" where the gun (the Law Giver) takes a DNA sample everytime a round is fired. Well, mine does pretty much the same thing except that when my Kahr is fired, a DNA sample is smeared all over the backstrap. I mean to tell you the web of my hand looks like hamburger after 100 rounds. What's more, now the gun sometimes fails to feed. I have two Kahr 7 round extended base plate magazines and somethimes the round hangs up on the feed ramp. Somethimes the round doesn't chamber at all. I'm assuming that some how I'm limp wristing the gun when it fails to feed.
HELP! I want in the worst way to keep my gun. I like the power, the feel and the general ergonomics of the gun, but I don't like the way it treats me.
I've had an MK40 for 10 years. It makes a great pocket gun, but it is ammo-sensitive. I had to try several brands of ammo before I found one I could trust. Try some other ammo before you do anything to the gun.
As for the biting problem, about all you can do is dehorn it everywhere that it is sharp.

I think that as far as being ammo sensative and the failures to feed, it's just me. I took the sharp edges off the back strap (what there is of it) and now the curvature of it extends to the grip. In other words the grip is going to absorb some of the recoil too. My hand is too swolen to test this theory out today.
Would it be possible to convert this gun to a 9mm? I'm going to call the Kahr shop tomorrow to find out. I should just need the slide, barrel, recoil spring, extractor, ejector and magazines, right? From the looks of the price list stuff they should be a lot less expensive than getting a second gun.
Maybe using a Hogue grip or some other brand would solve the problem. This could add a little cushion plus supply a friendlier surface for your hand.
I have been shooting a K40 for ten years and have never cut myself. There is nothing on my back strap that is sharp. The radius at the top of the grip area has corners that are square but they have never bothered me. I have the soft rubber grips and they cover the back strap nearly all the way to the top. Your not getting slide bite are you?
I never tried the 7 round mags, but have never had failures of any kind with any ammo with the standard 6 round mags. Does it jam with the standard mags or just the 7? Hope you get it worked out as these are excellent carry guns.

I'm almost positive I'm not getting "slide bite". The slide is WAY up there when I shoot and my hand come no where near it. I figure it's the square edges on what's left of the back strap. I too am running the soft rubber grips. I just took a Dremmel tool and rounded off the sharp / square edges on the one side where I'm getting cut. We'll see if that works.
I don't have any problems with either of the two extra six round magazines, so I'm going to carry those for a while until I can get the seven rounders straightened out. Like I said, the gun fits my hand perfectly with the six rounders so that's what I'll continue to use.
Also I ordered a 9mm kit from Kahr to see if it is the round that is doing it. Although I don't know how well that's going to work. The 9mm rounds I usually carry (Winchester Ranger T 127 grain +P+) are pretty stout and actually have MORE energy than the .40 stuff. The kit consists of a 9mm slide, barrel, extractor, ejector, recoil spring and magazines. If all else fails I can order a lighter spring from Wolff to see if that improves functioning and recoil.

I wasn't aware that top ends could be switched out. Can you tell me what the kit runs? PM if you want.

No Problems! Go to the Kahr website. They now have gun parts on it. There is no "kit" per se, but I did get the things I'd need to change it over.
Their server isn't secure so order at your own risk. The parts ran $474.20.
