Can I buy a factory 5.25" barrel, have it cut down, thread it, and use it in my 4.5" XDM9?
Can you buy a factory barrel? Typically, not unless you know someone at SA.
I don't know if the barrels are available or not. I just like to keep my stuff factory as much a possible. I guess I'm more curious if it fits, like not being able to use a cut down G17 barrel in a G19 for example.
Sorry if I was not clear, they will not sell you a barrel unless you know someone who can override their standard policies.
